Per the recent wailing and gnashing of teeth, I hereby present the new design for portal templates.
Please see Portal:Scotland for an example of this. If you are creating your own test or example of this, you will need to copy, or request an admin copy, the css for it. In the given example that would be Mediawiki:Common.css/Portal:Scotland.
Firstly, this example is - as you can see - primarily for use on a geographic portal. There is obviously also a need to deal with topical portals. I would welcome feedback on that, and any ideas people might have.
The ticker code is not yet implemented, but should not be seriously difficult to do. There are, however, a couple of fairly important things to deal with.
- Expiry of stale lead(s)
- Creation of a portal-level makelead tool.

RSS link[edit]
Would it be possible for the RSS link in this template to link directly to the RSS feed for the portal's category, rather than the complete Wikinews feed? --Yair rand (talk) 05:29, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
