On Wednesday, Spanish capital football club Real Madrid announced German midfielder Toni Kroos signed a contract extension till 2022.
26-year-old Toni Kroos left Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in 2014 for €30 million. Since then, the German international has featured in 108 games for Los Blancos. The World Champion has won the UEFA Champions League in 2016, and the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid.
Signing an extension which will tie him with the club for two additional years, Kroos is expected to earn £20 million according to German newspaper Bild. This salary would make Kroos the highest-earning German international.
Speaking to the media, Kroos said, "I have been very happy here in Madrid since the very first day and I'm really pleased to be here for at least six more years." The midfielder added, "Real Madrid may well be the last team I play for. [...] I don't see myself as the kind of player to still be playing at the age of 36, I want to go out at the highest level".
