[edit]

Hello,

Bruce Lehrmann judge says he has no links to published book of judgement lists a few events

  • Michael Lee has said that he had no involvement in a book written about his judgement in the trial.
  • Lee found that considering a balance of probabilities, it was likely that Lehrmann had raped fellow political staffer Brittany Higgins,
  • Melbourne University Press announced it would publish a book about his judgement entitled He Went Back for His Hat.
  • a spokesperson for the Federal Court of Australia said that neither the court nor Lee were involved in the writing or publication of the book.
  • Lehrmann has appealed against his loss in the lawsuit.

When did these events happen? Especially the focal event (points 1 and 4).

Please add. Ref: inverted pyramid, 5W.

Thank you. Gryllida (talk) 11:09, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, are you still available? Gryllida (talk) 21:44, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Gryllida: Yeah sorry, I was unable to deal with this immediately. I have added dates when I could; if a date is not listed specifically, it presumably happened the same day as everything else.
  • This happened on October 15. The date is at the top of the page; since it is the first thing said, I would think one would presume it would have happened on the date.
  • I have specified this was in the conclusion of the trial, which is dated earlier on the page as April 2024.
  • This presumably happened on October 15.
  • Same as above
  • I have dated this.

This happened on October 15. The date is at the top of the page; since it is the first thing said, I would think one would presume it would have happened on the date. The date at the top of the article reflects the article's publication date and will be updated once the article passes review. To ensure clear and accurate reporting, it's essential to explicitly address the "When" in the article's prose. For example, rather than relying solely on the article's publication date, use language similar to, 'in a statement released on October 15, a spokesperson said...' This provides clarity and accuracy. —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 15:06, 17 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi

[edit]

I would like to propose writing news together, you are welcome to participate as either a writer or as tipper (or both).

As a news tipper share url to a today event here WN:RA. Make sure you click "subscribe" in your new section and keep checking notifications twice a day.

As a news writer click "subscribe" on that page and any time someone leaves a note, if it indeed is current event, then make a tiny article about it. Just find two sources, answer 5Ws, keep it around 101-150 words. (Bait for easy reviewing here).

Please let me know how you would like to be involved?

Regards, 🙂 Gryllida (talk) 09:51, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Article reviewed

[edit]

I just reviewed Trump removes X gender option on American passports and noted a few areas where it could be improved.

I'll keep an eye out for it to be re-submitted for review. I typically have time to review articles before noon (Pacific Time). Thank you for sticking with it! —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 18:04, 22 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please don't get discouraged. Keep at it!! We must maintain a certain distance from source articles. Stay with it! Let me know if I can help in any way.--Bddpaux (talk) 16:12, 23 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Bddpaux: It is far past the point where it was newsworthy. CheatCodes4ever (talk) 00:28, 24 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Paul Keating article

[edit]

We have this little sticky wicket around here: Imagine Neutrality and the Spirit of Neutrality as two siblings, that share a bit of animosity between themselves. Reviewers (often) have to understand that weird thing, and try to manage it. This article seems pretty solid (only gave it about a 2-minute read, nothing more) -- but in terms of the Spirit of Neutrality, it has a pinch more bite to it that I think is proper for this project. Can you take a few steps to maybe "neutralize" the language just a hair?--Bddpaux (talk) 17:09, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Bddpaux: What specifically do you think I should change? CheatCodes4ever (sandbox | CentralAuth) 20:34, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am copying in the first two paragraphs (as they sit now) below:

"Former Prime Minister of Australia, Paul Keating, reportedly gave the current Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, advice regarding his first face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump, giving him "fighting words" in case things became heated.

Keating informed the audience at the State Library of New South Wales last night. "I did give our prime minister a heap of fighting points in the event that Trump turned nasty on him," he revealed. "It turned out he didn't have to use them." Keating also commented that he felt that Albanese was "up for having Australia punch back" if Trump had indeed became more hostile. "If you showed the slightest sign of weakness, you're buggered with him," he added."

Essentially: Our lede (and certainly our focal event, based on the title) is that a notable person advised another notable person about strategic mechanisms to use in an upcoming meeting. I don't know -- sometimes, as I type, I re-think things. I wonder, if re-calibrating things so that the TOP of the inverted pyramid here is actually the meeting itself...(and outcomes?) -- then a bit or two about the advice that was given. Was any other advice given, beyond "fighting words" -- I'm just not sure that "a notable person told another notable person how to properly tell Donald Trump off, if needed" is a credible way to start an article, in terms of neutrality.--Bddpaux (talk) 22:54, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

If we confirm the news value of "Paul Keating advising Anthony Albanese about his first meeting with Donald Trump", then that's the article's main point, and the existing structure seems fine. A former prime minister offering diplomatic advice to the current prime minister is a relatively rare political phenomenon in most places, and therefore has news value. If this opening has supporting evidence, why can't it be trusted? I don't detect any bias in it. Sheminghui.WU (talk) 00:07, 8 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

streak proposal

[edit]

Hi, I am proposing to setup w:streak goals over a 12 week period: for example,

  • "write one story each two weeks, and babysit it until it is published"

This could be either authoring a completely new article or this could be taking over someone else's article and doing focused editing on it with active collaboration with others until it is published. It is like a day shift as you are expected to remain available 'on call' to address concerns from another user or reviewer.

The aim of this is to build a habit of participation with outbursts of eyeballing the page to collaborate with others -- but not every day, to have breaks and reduce burnout. Could you please check out at this section and let me know what you think? Gryllida 03:16, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for signing up. You haven't included a role: author or collaborator or reviewer. What would you like to do? Gryllida 02:04, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gryllida: I think I would like to be an author. CheatCodes4ever (sandbox | CentralAuth) 00:01, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi CheatCodes4ever

I am writing to you because one of your articles is in the review queue.

I had decided not to review articles after mid-April due to possible required time and effort for migration. Link to the migration discussion "meta:Migration of Wikinews and future hosts", and I would like to invite you to participate. For now there is one possible venue with joined Miraheze and Wikimedia NYC hosting but their communication appears to be happening off-wiki as far as I know and I do not know their possible result nor the timing of that discussion.
