Places to go, people to meet Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion. There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Review Reformation

Thank you for your comment at Talk:Warrington Hudlin honored at 2025 Queens World Film Festival. I have been posting in various places because in the time I've been here, every single non-original reporting article I've written has become stale - in one case, because it was not reviewed in a timely manner, I was asked to update it, and then THAT was not reviewed in a timely manner, so again it was marked stale. I've seen this happen to other peoples' articles as well. I don't think this is a good look, and I also think it's a waste of peoples' effort and serves no purpose. Anyway, if you'd like to see my attempts at reform of this process that is not working at all, I've made a few scattered comments at [[1]] and a thread at Wikinews talk:Newsworthiness if you'd be interested in participating. Reviews 'Sandhani' article

Please see my comments on the Talk page of that article. You are new here, and we are glad you've taken an interest in this project. 'Freshness' is important here. We focus on discreet news events -- sometimes things go stale and I hate that. But, we are an imperfect project -- always trying to get better. I say (a bit whimsically, so take it as such), "Don't fall in love with your articles." I have felt the sting of working hard on an article, and then it goes stale before it is published. I can respect the annoyance. Get the news, write the news, submit the news -- and, move on.--Bddpaux (talk) 15:57, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

• To be clear, I certainly didn't "fall in love" with ShSMC Sandhani unit opens registration for 2023-24, an article which I didn't create and which has some significant editing issues. But I think that the people who take the time to write articles ought to receive timely reviews of those articles. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 02:06, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

  I'd counter "don't fall in love with your articles" with "don't fall in love with your policies" that don't seem to be working to make a news site (or anything useful). This is garbage because:

a) It is too long

b) it has " ��" in between sentences

c) It has incomplete sentences like "Background on the SuspectDavis had an active arrest warrant ..."

Please do not submit crappy paragraphs for review. This delays publishing. The only thing a reviewer can do is delete the whole paragraph, or clean it up; which is time consuming and disrespectful because you could have done the same too before submitting article for review and because it is not publishable in current form. PLEASE ONLY SUBMIT COMPLETED ARTICLES. THIS IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT.

Also, the image licensing is unclear. It should be revised in Wikimedia Commons, as it is not 'Own work' unless you took the photo. It is likely that the image will need to be re-uploaded locally at Wikinews, via Special:Upload, as Wikimedia Commons does not allow uploads of 'fair use' images. I saw your comment and fixed it.

The template tries to ensure it only outputs text if the article is a draft, in order to avoid it rendering text in a published article if it is left behind by accident. A few remarks:

1. Having checked sources, I needed to make some changes, such as "near the neck" and not "in the neck", and the bombing incident was last year (not two years ago). Please check the edit history carefully and let me know if any of my changes were incorrect.

2. I am trying to push towards more exclusive content or more closer follow ups here. Could you please either think of the questions to ask the South Korean Army, or, write a follow up report when the investigations completed and drills resumed?

3. Barely newsworthy as this is nearly 5 days old but I think this is fine to publish.

4. For npov balance, recommend including responses from other sources, i.e., from someone who is not a part of the South Korean Army. This may be done up to 24 hours after the story is published.

I think my article is best located at Supreme Court of Finland convicts Päivi Räsänen and Juhana Pohjola of crimes against humanity rather than Supreme Court of Finland convicts Päivi Räsänen and Juhana Pohjola of inciting hatred because the actual charge, the actual crime, and the actual conviction all fall under the section of the Criminal Code of Finland that concerns crimes against humanity. Moreover, there is a particular focus from several sources on the fact that Räsänen and Pohjola were convicted under the section of the Criminal Code of Finland that concerns crimes against humanity. • I would note that one of the cited sources, this article from The Guardian, begins with the sentence, "A Finnish member of parliament has been found guilty by the country’s supreme court of inciting hatred after claiming that homosexuality was a 'developmental disorder', in a conviction that prompted criticism from far-right government ministers." That source doesn't even mention the term "crimes against humanity" at all. Another cited article from The Independent doesn't mention "crimes against humanity", either. News is over a week old but I am publishing. The headline could be better but there is so much controversy about how to put it properly that I am content with the current revision.

Overall as a piece of feedback, it is necessary to be more factual and as much as possible insert facts rather than qualitative characterizations. I believe this has substantially improved in the last few days as the article has been revised. Thank you.

I have read the talk page and I believe the concerns there have been satisfactorily addressed in the recent edits and in the resulting current revision.
