Welcome

[edit]

Mindmatrix, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!FellowWikiNews (W) 16:26, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Publishing

[edit]

Hello. I see you are new to Wikinews, and we love new users. However, articles only get published by those who have 'editor' status. Our official review policy is here: Wikinews:Reviewing articles. Usually after a contributor has edited, written or copy-edited articles for a period (determined on a case-by-case basis), we grant them 'editor' status. It's not that we don't trust you or new users, but to control the quality and style of articles. I hope you understand and hope that you stick around to help improve Wikinews. I read the policy and somehow missed the "Editor" status. I'm used to greater flexibility in my editing as an admin on the English WP. Sorry about that. Mindmatrix (talk) 17:50, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
If you want, you could request the permission here. I'm pretty sure you would pass without objection, given your good edit history and experience. Tempo di Valse ♪ 18:18, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews:Editor

[edit]

Hallo! Would you perhaps like to file a request for editor status at WN:FR/RFP? It would save others from the trouble of having to approve your many helpful edits to published articles, which sometimes takes hours because there is sometimes a bottleneck in the review queue. Just a suggestion. Cheers, tempodivalse 17:09, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Alright - I'll do that. It'll probably ease the load on other editors too. Mindmatrix 17:42, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

WP linking

[edit]

Hi, Mindmatrix. Just wanted to tell you you've been doing a good job with the links. One note, though, you might not want to link really basic words, such as "astronomer", "scientist", etc., that the reader can probably be relied on to already understand. Other than that, nice work. (Your request for editor application ends in a few hours, so I'll promote you then, providing nobody objects.) Cheers, tempodivalse 13:56, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, the same policy exists at WP. I inadvertently linked to astronomer for that article, but I usually ensure that the links I add are to less well-known concepts. Mindmatrix 20:42, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

You've been promoted

[edit]

I've closed your RfE as successful, you're now an editor. Congratulations! You might want to read:

If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask me at my talk page. Cheers, tempodivalse 18:20, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I've been reading through most of the policy pages in the past week - some ofthem need a bit of work, but otherwise they're clear enough. Mindmatrix 20:42, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!
Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!

Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
Point 4 of the Privilege expiry policy provides for fast-tracking reacquisition of privileges. We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.
