portals categories[edit]

hi moverton, there is indeed wide agreement now that categories should remain as full listings separate from the portal, have a look at the 'category portals' proposal discussion and feel free to chip in to develop it! -ClareWhite/Cmwhite

Month categories[edit]

Howdy! It looks like you're doing something interesting as concerns categories for months -- have you seen pages such as Wikinews:2005/April where articles are digested by month and date? --Chiacomo (talk) 00:10, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen them, and intended to eventually categorize them, but have just been busy with other things. Moverton 04:41, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry -- I don't really understand what you're doing. You recently created Category:Science and technology topics while we already have Category:Science and technology. What is your ultimate goal in creating many new categories? --Chiacomo (talk) 04:59, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for doing that is to making navigating the categories easier. The category system does not list all the subcategories on the first page when there are more than 200 articles. So to see all the subcategories a user would have to page through the multiple pages to look for subcategories. By putting the subcategories into a separate holding category, it makes navigating the category structure much easier. This situation would be rare with Wikipedia, but on Wikinews, as the number of articles grows over future years, it will occur often. Moverton 05:07, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
