[edit]Mputney, welcome to Wikinews! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!
Doing original stories
[edit]I'm busy on something else at the moment, so I've given you the above boilerplate to fill you in on some of the rules, regs., and guidelines. I figure if you get a chance to look at what we're trying to do then you'll see how you can work with that. For interviews and other original reporting stuff, you need to leave notes on the talk page, or a sub-page thereof. That's so that if you spend 2 hours interviewing someone you have the full transcript somewhere and everyone can check how you've arrived at the published article. --Brian McNeil / talk 18:57, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Just an additional, you can ask me questions on my talk or ask on the Water cooler if you want an answer from a random person (which might be quicker). --Brian McNeil / talk 19:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- hi mputney, and welcome to wikinews. i've formatted the Original Reporting (OR) notes that u posted on the article talk page. perhaps u can take a look at it and see if it's ok. i've also removed ur user name listed in the sources section - my understanding is that Wikinews articles do not explicitly list contributors on the article page itself. instead, i've noted on the article's talk page that the notes have been compiled by you.
- the article is very well produced and i look forward to more such contributions from u. if u need some help on writing the article, places to go include Wikinews:Writing an article, Wikinews:Water cooler/assistance and Wikinews:Newsroom#Collaboration requests. please feel free to post a note on any of our user talk pages too. welcome again, Doldrums 15:09, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Dark Matter story
[edit]Yep, pretty much because it's old. But now that I think of it, it's still somewhat newsworthy. Go ahead and publish it -- it's a great article. —this is messedrocker
