WikiNews Contest[edit]

Hi, I'd like to invite you to the "one article per day" Wikinews:Writing contest which begins on March 21. The prizes so far are a bit lame, but I'll try to get some more goodies organized until then. Even if you think you can't win, it would be nice if you could participate, to increase the action. -- Eloquence 01:37, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Participation is more important than winning." I'm game. But I am going to make an effort to win. -- Redge (Talk) 08:35, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Dear Redge,

thanks for registering for the Wikinews writing contest! It now begins officially. Every day, I will try to make a tally of who has and who has not managed to fulfill their story/day requirements. If you do, however, believe I am missing something, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best of luck in the contest!--Eloquence 06:20, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanx. -- Redge (Talk) 11:47, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Date tag[edit]

Actually, I'm using User:Amgine/Sandbox6 which is an expansion of the Template:date to include links to the article archives of that specific date. It includes exactly the same information as the date template, plus linking them. I am using the subst: command so the template does not get broken in archived articles if at some point in the future I change/remove that sandbox. - Amgine 16:23, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Central America[edit]

I suggest you focus on some Central American countries. The CA category is almost empty. -- Redge (Talk) 08:52, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Redge, if you want CA countries to be covered you are welcome to sign up and vote for some of them. → CGorman (Talk) 20:36, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I would, but I'm working on another underrepresented country: The Netherlands. -- Redge (Talk) 11:20, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Fair enough, the thing is that we (Country of the Week writers) are all fairly busy ourselves. We want to improve international repersentaion but obviously we prefer to write about countries we feel we know more about or have a greater interest in. So far it seems that all 3 participants are more interested in Africa. Feel free to join us - by joing you are not making a commitment, even if you only submit one story every five weeks, we would still appreciate it. → CGorman (Talk) 15:08, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Very well then. But no guarantees! -- Redge (Talk) 15:58, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
If you write just 1 article this year for Country of the Week would be wonderful! Lend a hand when you can, but don't feel any pressure. → CGorman (Talk) 18:29, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for signing up! You are invited to vote for a country once a week. You can vote for any of those listed at the bottom of the page. → CGorman (Talk) 20:30, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

President Bush goes to Latvia article[edit]

Hi,just wondered if you saw the article before it and its sources were erased by Amgine and Dan100. I know Amgine and Dan100 do not like it so I am looking for more input? I think its news. My Dad who served in WWII in Britain thinks its big news. What do you think? If you have time, please see the last revision before they erased it. Paulrevere2005 00:11, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at it, and the sources you cite. Although I don't know much about The Guardian, I'm a little sceptical when news of such magnitude is ingored by all but one site. Perhaps if you could show more evidence for your claims than only The Guardian's word they've seen the documents in question? -- Redge (Talk) 00:19, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chili finger incident[edit]

Thanks for writing up the "dossier".

At the April 26, 2005 extradition hearing, Ayala's attorney indicated that they were ready to come to San Jose so Ayala could defend herself against the charges. Unless there is a surprise development, it's not clear where Ayala could obtain the funds to post the outrageously high US$500,000 bail (it's not as if she killed anyone).

But here's the latest news...Ayala is back in San Jose!

Suspect in Wendy's finger case to be arraigned next week

They quietly brought her back to town so I missed out on her arrival, but I'll see if I can be in the court for her arraignment, which the Santa Clara DA says might take place on Monday. — DV 10:07, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCommons screenshot[edit]

Hi, I guess that you have uploaded commons:Image:Star Wars III Filesharing.png to Wikicommons. It has been labelled a copyright violation since KazaaLite is protected by copyright. I thought it might be a good idea if you uploaded it locally to Wikinews instead, before it is deleted. Regards, commons:User:Thuresson, June 6, 2005

Thanks for the heads up! -- Redge (Talk) 11:48, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
