Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems. — μ 09:26, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Simple Wikipedia

[edit]

OK Tegel you can unblock me now on Simple Wikipedia. I'm done calling you names.--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:02, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

That's up to the local admins. -- Tegel (talk) 19:03, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes but you're the blocking Administrator.--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:05, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm not a local admin, so I leave it to the local admin to either remove the block or make it permanent. -- Tegel (talk) 19:06, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ok then ask them to unblock then. Since I promised not to call you loser or moron or any other names

I will ask them to do what they feel is the best for the Simple Wikipedia. I will not tell them what to do. -- Tegel (talk) 19:10, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I feel it's best that they unblock me.--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:10, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I would greatly appreciate if the block gets lifted over there.

Unblock over there please.

@Tegel: ask them to unblock please on simple wikipedia--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:19, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Earth to @Tegel: unblock the account on simple wikipedia please.--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:24, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's up to the local admins to decide what they want to do. -- Tegel (talk) 19:27, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

You blocked the dagnum account so you need to unblock it.--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:29, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I blocked your account for 48 hours and a local admin changed it to permanent. There is nothing I can do about that. -- Tegel (talk) 19:31, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I want it changed back to 48 hrs and YES theres something you can do about it.

I'm not a local admin and I don't have the power to overrun local decisions. I'm not part of the local community so I have no reason to start a local discussion. -- Tegel (talk) 19:36, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK, but you need to listen ok I regret calling you those names and the 48hrs. was fair enough as is and the indefinite is blown out proportion

What the suitable length of your block is, is not up to me to decide. -- Tegel (talk) 19:43, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

You need to talk to them please.

@Tegel: Please ask the Administrator over there to unblock--Shawn1033 (talk) 20:15, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Tegel: ok Tegel I'm sorry but you can lift the global block now on the IP address--Shawn1033 (talk) 19:09, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Shawn1033: what IP address?   — Jeff G. ツ 14:56, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Shawn1033: At the same time as your comment I placed a global block on 97.118.126.219 for cross-wiki abuse. See also User talk:97.118.126.219. Was that your IP-address? -- Tegel (talk) 15:37, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I hate you

[edit]

For obvious reasons

Thanks for letting me know that you moved on and vandalised cross-wiki. -- Tegel (talk) 16:28, 10 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Global user page?

[edit]

Hi. Do you still need a local userpage, Tegel? 23:49, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
