Welcome[edit]
TheFEARgod~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!–Doldrums(talk) 16:38, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Egyptian boat story[edit]
I am sorry, but that was a copyright violation. Please see Wikinews:Copyright. --SVTCobra 23:27, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Somalia: Grenade explosion kills two in Afgoi[edit]
You didn't rewrite. You are still copying the text of other news sources. --SVTCobra 23:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
You're getting better at this, that's a nice stub which I published with only minor changes. Don't give up hope of getting the hang of Wikinews, all of us started out with fairly short articles and learned from what other people were doing. In fact, we're all still learning about how best to improve the presentation of the news. Wiki is always an evolving process. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- thanks --TheFEARgod 13:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with that, a much better article. Once you get into the swing of things I'm sure you'll become a great asset to the project, as I've bumped into you from time to time on Wikipedia, so I know that you put a lot of work into whatever you feel is worth doing. Tickersource[edit]
There is a lot of headlines as we want a variety of stories. Since it's random, if there arent many stories it can get boring, whereas with a big list there is plenty of variety. TheFearow 22:31, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Please do not copy and paste articles from other sources. We have had this discussion in the past. --SVTCobra 15:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Next time delete the copied sentence rather than obscuring the whole article because of that sentence!!!
--TheFEARgod 16:44, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- How about next time you don't copy-paste entire paragraphs. Two of three paragraphs were copied! --SVTCobra 17:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
This story, as you submitted it was a copyright violation of this article. Please do not copy and paste from other news-sources. Please! --SVTCobra 16:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
FYI, we have a relatively new policy Wikinews:Reviewing articles which precludes publishing your own articles. Cheers, --SVTCobra 17:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called TheFEARgod. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name TheFEARgod~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
