lacrosse portal[edit]

I'm new to wikinews and I want to create a lacrosse portal in the sports section. how can i do this? (Twiggslaxfpc 08:03, 10 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Excelent! Just give me a minute, and I'll tell you how to go about creating one (also consider using our chat room). Bawolff 08:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, currently we only have three articles (if there are any others which aren't listed there on wikinews, let me know). For topics that have a low amount of stories, we generally just use the category page until they have at least 7 articles (often more), however you could still create a portal if you really really feel like it. You could also jazz up the category page instead if you wish. I'd recommend basing it off the code in Category:FLOSS. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. Sport stnadings tables are fairly easy to set up, but you need to have some method of updating them continousuly (get some bot to do it [preferably] (see user:SportsBot for example), or do it yourself). Would you be able to maintain such tables? Bawolff 23:50, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

--SVTCobra 03:21, 14 February 2008 (UTC)== Lacrosse categories ==[reply]

I think that you should have included "Lacrosse" in the category names for College Womens and College Mens, since there are other college sports other than lacrosse, and there would be no way to differentiate between them.

Also, I don't think all those categories are really necessary. We only have a small number of articles about lacrosse at the moment; if there were more, it would be a good idea to split that up into smaller categories, but at this time it seems a little unnecessary.

I do love lacrosse (Minnesota Swarm are #1!!), and hope to see more articles about the sport in the future, but for now we should just keep it simple. :-) (Zachary) 19:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted the five categories, College Womens, College Mens, HS Boys, HS Girls, and International, since their names were quite ambiguous (College Mens What? Football? Basketball? Hockey?), and also, there really isn't enough articles for these categories to be useful at this time. I've also deleted the image you've uploaded, LacrosseSport.jpg, since the image is very similar to a copyrighted image here. I've also made some changes to the portal, including adding an alternative image, adding a list of the most recent lacrosse articles, and also some other minor changes to the layout and such. I had to re-delete several of these. Please do not recreate or you could be seen as disrupting the project/vandalising. Categories are created when a need arises from the articles we have, not the other way around. --SVTCobra 02:58, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please work with an experienced editor in how to establish categories as a sub-category, if that is what you are trying to do.--SVTCobra 03:22, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
