Bangkok Bombings[edit]

ok cool, shall i merge mine into yours?UKWiki 13:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname[edit]

Isn't the nickname a bit contradictory? :-) --Brian McNeil / talk 16:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I like the nickname, hope you're going to stick around and contribute to this, the story on the Bangkok explosions is pretty well written and I've put it up as second lead. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:36, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for your contributions today, and have a good and prosperous new year! --Brian McNeil / talk 21:50, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

interesting stuff, Bangkok hit with further New Year bomb blasts and Bombings reported in Bangkok. Best regards. -Edbrown05 09:08, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

If you check the front page you'll see the second lead is now doubled with the two Bangkok stories and the shopping centre picture is up. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:26, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thailand article[edit]

no sweat. looking forward to more such well-crafted articles from you. best, –Doldrums(talk) 16:15, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

21 dead in south Thailand attacks merits this

You deserve one of these for the excellent job you've done on the latest story to go in Category:South Thailand insurgency. I sincerely hope we're going to see more of you doing things like this. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:48, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cambodian ASEAN story[edit]

Can you find another source in a non-english language? If it can be processed through a translation service and vaguely backs up the content of the article that's usually good enough to get past most of us. I'd hate to see us lose the story, I found it interesting and amusing. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ASEAN[edit]

have found another source, see talk page of article. --MarkTalk 20:33, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hmmmm shame to loose the story!! i will see if i can find another --MarkTalk 20:41, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work![edit]

Nice work on the article, World's defense chiefs meet in Singapore. Very comprehensive and well written. --Jcart1534 22:24, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ploy images[edit]

Hi,

I like them, is there any chance you could write an article on the film release, a bit of background about the film etc? Self-made works get priority on the front page, and an article will certainly get them selected.

--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 22:21, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've put it on the main page, great article, you should always write about it if you go to something like that! How did you get in, did you say you were from the press? Or are you a celebrity :-) ? Anyway good work, thanks! --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Incredible that you wouldn't have written it otherwise... tssss... I'll add it to my list of contributions then . Nice to have a real reporter among us, welcome! --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:47, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job on the Ploy premiere article. Is it safe to assume that you are the same Wise Kwai that is behind this? --SVTCobra 23:33, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Popemobile boarded[edit]

Yes, some people like to leave the headline behind with a link to the full story. Others remove all trace of it from shorts. --SVTCobra 19:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I should say that if there is any good content in the short version or good sources, then they should be incorporated into the full article. --SVTCobra 19:46, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and made the links, if that is okay? Jcart1534 19:45, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There shouldn't be two articles. See the changes I made. --SVTCobra 23:18, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Atlantis[edit]

No problem :) I just thought it was on there for a few hours is all. I guess I misread the addition time. :) DragonFire1024 19:53, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Easy on the sources![edit]

Hi Wisekwai. I noticed you started the Wikinews Shorts: June 12, 2007. I just wanted to comment on the number of sources you listed for the first item. You have six sources listed for a two-sentence story! We shouldn't be collecting sources, but rather only listing ones that were used. The Wikinews:Cite sources states, "Only cite sources used for information - do not add sources if you did not include any information from them." It makes it difficult for users/editors to verify information if there are many sources, which weren't used. Cheers, and my apologies if they were all used, but I didn't have time to go through them! :) Jcart1534 19:28, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! But just to stress, sources shouldn't be added unless specific information was obtained from them. We shouldn't add sources in the hope that someone might use them to expand a story. It just adds confusion. If someone were to add to an article, they should add a source at that time, if they obtained unique information from that source. As for dead sources, we should be careful to select a unique URL from the source, not a main page. There is less chance of it "going dead". We shouldn't add sources to build in redundancy. We can move this to a Policy page discussion if you would like input from other users? In any event, your contributions have been fantastic. Keep it up! Jcart1534 19:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Currency article[edit]

No Problem. :)I thought it was a good article BTW :) Good Job! DragonFire1024 21:35, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Laos Plot[edit]

You beat me to it ;) Bail denied in Laos overthrow plot, Hmong protest. Good job again! DragonFire1024 21:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Accessing commons and wikipedia[edit]

I know this is hours later, but I am not having the same problem. --SVTCobra 10:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Privs[edit]

I suspect you'd sail through an admin nomination. Do you think you could make use of the extra buttons, or are you happy as a "mere mortal" editor? :-) --Brian McNeil / talk 14:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I answered your response on my talk, but I should probably put something here too. :-) You've done enough that the community would grant you admin privs - I have no doubt about that. However, you have to decide when you think you actually need them. If you start spotting vandalism in Recent Changes and things like that then you're probably needing the privs to clean up when you're about. It isn't mean to be an onerous duty, just a best effort by a bunch of people who trust each other. You? You've earned that trust through your contributions. You've shown yourself open to listening to folks that have been around a bit longer, and you're now at the stage you're well-enough practiced that you can probably do an article and publish in one take. One key thing to remember about Wikinews is that being a sysop isn't some special privilege, it is something that virtually every reasonably trusted editor ends up with. I - and probably 90% of the community - wouldn't care if you only used the buttons once or twice a month. It'd likely be when nobody else is about due to timezone differences, and that is why it is good to have a lot of sysops.
As it stands, I think you've done an excellent job "taking over" from my efforts to cover the south Thailand insurgency. We need more reporters like yourself, so stick at it - and when you've seen enough vandalism to want to be able to fix it either nominate yourself or ask me to - I'd be happy to. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Austin, Texas incident[edit]

Thanks for the move. Just FYI, the first stories I saw did indicate the accident as hit-and-run; I wasn't assuming or reading in. :) Lawikitejana 19:08, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sources in Zimbabwe article[edit]

Hi, If you check the sources listed you will see all the information contained in the article is reported in them. CNN is listed their, and the quote given to the Guardian comes from the BBC article. The state media stuff comes from the CNN article. Please read the sources provided and then get back to me. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 13:55, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While I was writing this you mentioned AP on the talk page. That's mentioned by one of the listed sources too, think that it is again CNN. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 13:56, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it; to pull it down quickly when it looked dodgy was the right thing to do and I would have done the same. I apreciate what you mean about tracking down originals, though - if I can, I will add them. If not, tough. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 14:00, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's[edit]

Hi, it's no big deal, but you should be aware that in Brittish English, which the article should conform to as a news story about Scotland's legal system, it's is the possesive form as well as a contracted form of it is. Since the article should conform to Brittish English as I've mention, Ive changed it back to saying it's. Generally speaking, though, go ahead and change it, just beware of UK articles. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 06:20, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about it. I know plenty of Brits who don't realise (Probably from seeing it so much in other forms of English, I wonder if our possesive commas may one day die out...). Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 06:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

great work![edit]

For writing a long series of exceptionally fine articles and expanding Wikinews coverage of the Asia-Pacific region, I, Doldrums am pleased to award Wisekwai the Wikinews Trophy.

I echo Doldrums' opinion. Great work! [1] (SEWilco 13:07, 29 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I was wondering... Are you planning to apply for WN:AR? We've just got "wikinewsie.org" and all active accredited reporters will be given accounts on it. --Brian McNeil / talk 17:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
