- Name: Sander van Ginkel
- Location: the Netherlands & United Kingdom
- Areas of interest: photography, sport (women's road cycling)
- Reason: I go to many sport events (mainly women's road cycling events) and write about it on Wikipedia and upload pictures to Wiki Commons which I use for my articles. With a press accreditation it is possible to get closer to the cyclists which means better pictures. I'll also be able to interview some cyslists and use it for wikinews articles.
- Accomplishments: I'm active on different wikimedia projects (wikipedia, wikicommons, wikidata), but not (yet) on wikinews. I uploaded >500 images to commons, created >500 articles on Wikipedia (mainly women's road cycling), contributed to many GA articles and also wrote a GA article (like this one) myself. As an example for a sport event, I went to the 2013 UCI Road World Championships. I wrote the wikipedia page and subpages, and uploaded many images and merged them into the articles.

[edit]- Comment You show a great deal of promise and appear to be very devoted to the topic of women's cycling. I think you make a fair case for why you'd want to be an accredited reporter. Would you, however, be willing to spend about a month here doing some "menial" tasks first? Proofreading the work of others? Copyediting, etc. ?? I think you can write and I think you could do well here, but we also like to see that you're willing to "earn" your stripes first, too. I hope you can understand that. Humility earns you a lot of points here. --Bddpaux (talk) 17:21, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry for my late response, but yes of course I'm fine doing some menial tasks. Where can I find articles for proofreading, copyediting, etc.? Sander.v.Ginkel (talk) 10:32, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- This is the best place to start. --Bddpaux (talk) 19:18, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not being snarky here, I have no reason to be (and, looking at overall engagement here of-late, sure don't want to run anybody off!!), but on May 7th, you wrote, "...I'm fine doing some menial tasks." ....after which, I pointed you toward our Newsroom. That was your last edit here. Nothing since then. Nothing. You've contributed a great deal at WP and Commons and that's commendable; also we're all volunteers here....there've been periods where I've disappeared for many consecutive days. I understand work, life, kids etc. But it continues to twist my knickers when people come here, contribute very little and quickly ask to be accredited as a representative of this organization. When a news organization says "You're our reporter.", that's a big deal. Accreditation is a big thing for EU (etc.) folks, I get that, OK. But you have to give us something to work with and you have to show a good-faith effort to give, learn and share here. I can't vote favorably at this time. I hope you come back and contribute and once you've learned the ropes, I'll be your biggest supporter, but for now.....just cant go there. --Bddpaux (talk) 22:20, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment In a similar vein to Paul's remarks, it would be good to see you try your hand at writing in a news style; it's significantly different from that used for encyclopedic work. How we can work with people more-used to contributing images to Commons is something I'd like to see worked on longer-term, but for now most articles come about through single author plus reviewer(s). That means it'd be a bad idea to not have experience of the writing style first. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:25, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Oppose No (see above). --Bddpaux (talk) 22:21, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Neutral/not ready, per the comments above; I don't like opposing in such situation. (You are encouraged to start writing; it is not uncommon to get accreditation after you're on solid ground with writing news here or in another language.) --Gryllida 04:20, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
