Blog layout[edit]

I'd like to discuss blog layout here. We keep changing the blog back and forth while we should have some discussion and reach consensus here. Mainly, I don't like the colour scheme used, and I don't like the top banner promoting Freerice.com, it might be a good cause but it is unrelated. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:15, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it is unrelated. Why would we need a consensus on the look of the blog? FellowWiki Newsie 16:18, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there is http://wikinews.blogspot.com/ , which we posted our news stories on. Since Wikinews Reports is allowed on Google News then mabie we should start up the Wikinews blog again, and Google would approve us, because they approved the current blog, and then our news stories will be on Google. • I have submitted Wikinewsie's Editors' blog to Google's blog aggregator and updated the site to ping Technorati whenever a new post is put up. I don't want to use a single mass-ping service, so if anyone else knows blog pinging urls let me know. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:20, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Style/layout[edit]

I changed it because it was dull and unoriginal. Everything was set at standard default creation with the exception of one or two things. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:40, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but I don't think the standard layout was that bad. I would like to have a colour scheme that resembles our standard Wikinews layout more, you know, using a bit more blue-and-white and less green and dark colours in general.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 19:59, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some comments: Looked much better then last time I looked. I agree the Free rice thing seems unrelated. You have copyright info in there twice. The Donate to wikinews button seems inconsistent with the colour theme. I like the FR banner at the top, but the title has some contrast issues (perhaps the text should have an outline, like below example). The green background seems a little inconsistent with everything, ( as opposed to say a blue background, but that suffers from the everything is blue issue). However it does make it seem warmer and friendlier. In the end I think its definitly an improvement.Bawolff 20:09, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The free rice thing was just for fun and its not an "ad" because you don't need to buy anything or etc. I think it looks better now, and everything there is customizable, if you know HTML and etc or scripts it can all be edited to our liking...but I think it looks more inviting than before...and less like someone just started the blog 2 days ago. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 20:13, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also I quite liked the logo that was on the banner...as its consistant with our goals. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 20:14, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another thought. Currently it links to the RSS Feed for the blog (as it should). Maybe we should make it also link to our (the mian Wikinews) RSS feed. ( add
<link type="application/rss+xml" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/WikinewsLatestNews" rel="alternate" title="Lastest News (Main Wikinews Site)" />

Between the Head tags. (So it would look something like this in source:

<head>

  <meta content='text/html; charset=UTF-8' http-equiv='Content-Type'/>
  <meta content='true' name='MSSmartTagsPreventParsing'/>
  <meta content='blogger' name='generator'/>
  <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Wikinews Reports - Atom" href="http://wikinewsreports.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default" />
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Wikinews Reports - RSS" href="http://wikinewsreports.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss" />
<link rel="service.post" type="application/atom+xml" title="Wikinews Reports - Atom" href="http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3592957284064120366/posts/default" />
<link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="http://www.blogger.com/rsd.g?blogID=3592957284064120366" />
<link type="application/rss+xml" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/WikinewsLatestNews" rel="alternate" title="Lastest News (Main Wikinews Site - RSS)" />

  <title>Wikinews Reports</title>

  <style id='page-skin-1' type='text/css'>
and so on...

Proposed blue layout[edit]

Let's hear some feedback on these colours instead of the current ones. Too blue? (click to enlarge and see fullsize)--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 22:15, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the bg green does not interact well with the light aqua of the sidebar. Bawolff 20:41, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which of the two should change then? --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 23:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current blog poll[edit]

The current blog poll is faulty in that it suggests that there is one winner. Each party, Republicans and Democrats, will have a winner. There should be two polls, preferably, or it should be narrowed down one party. --SVTCobra 00:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
