Done Thanks for pointing that out. :) irid t i e 21:46, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Not a problem, thanks for the quick turnaround on that request. I'm starting to pay more attention to Wikinews, and I'm missing my mop on en.wp and Commons every time I trip across something more than a couple of days old. :) EVula // talk // 21:48, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, fortunately for you, it's not hard to get a mop here. I call myself a Janitor, in fact. irid t i e 21:49, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hehe, trust me, I've already eyed the requirements. :) My first "real" edit was at the beginning of August... dunno if that counts as "two month's work" though. Not really worried about requirement #2; been an admin on en.wp for a little over 10 months, a Commons admin for a couple of months, and I'm active on a ton of other projects. :) EVula // talk // 21:54, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Poke me some time if you want a nomination. I'd gladly throw you in front of the lions.
- By the way, talking is much more fun in IRC. If you have an IRC client, join us here. irid t i e 21:57, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the consideration. I might very well take you up on the offer. :)
I'm really just killing time right now; IRC is the devil when it comes to eating up time. I doubt my girlfriend would appreciate me being late in picking her up... EVula // talk // 21:59, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

On being nominated
[edit]Well, I'm out of town for the moment. When I have an internet connection which doesn't resemble a 56k modem, I'll take a look at your editing history and see what I can do. :) irid t i e 03:58, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Haha, that works. Worst case scenario? I have more edits under my belt. Hardly a bad thing. :) EVula // talk // 04:42, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

privs
[edit]Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.
- Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
- The privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.
--Pi zero (talk) 00:09, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- I had to look up what those revoked privileges were... I don't really have much of an issue with the rights being removed, though I do think that people should be given a heads up first (which is how we handle removing inactive sysops at enwiki). *shrug* EVula // talk // 07:03, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi, this may be surprising, but Wikinews is different from Wikipedia; your concern was discussed at the policy talk page:
- I had the exact same question (find "Would the candidates for expiries be warned about that in advance?" on that page)
- And it was discussed near "The point about notification was raised" phrase closer to the bottom of that page.
The point is: if people are notified in advance, they may come back and make a "token edit" (ie a small edit just to use the privs) and be technically active, while in practice otherwise.
It's ok if you disagree; this is no way I want to convince what is universally right or wrong, or that en.wp is wrong -- the proper behaviour may vary at different projects.
As always, happy holidays & happy new year. :) Cheers, --Gryllida 10:41, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree that a warning might get someone to make a token edit... but at the same time, you might get someone to actually start paying attention to the project again. It's more of a net gain than a net loss. For example, the one time I got a "hey, you're about to be desysopped" message on Commons, I made the "token" ten administrative actions, and kept my flag... and have used it considerably more in the time since that message. I'm not saying I've single-handedly changed the course of Commons or anything silly like that, but if I'd just gotten a "you're desyopped" message from them, I would have been screwed and every deletion that I've done is something someone else would have had to do, taking them away from other things... basically, by giving me a chance to make ten token edits, they've gotten a hundred+ subsequent non-token edits. A net gain for the project just by giving me advanced notice.
- Part of the difference of opinions comes from the fact that I'm not terribly convinced by the paranoia surrounding inactive accounts; I think the risk is significantly lower than people make it out to be. I can moderately understand it for bureaucrats and administrators, since the damage they can do, while technically reversible, is much more of a pain in the ass to sort thru. However, I think bundling the reviewer right in with the rest is a mistake, though consider my point of view: I've got the equivalent right on eight other projects, even though I don't edit on those projects all that often (mainly because I do interwiki edits on the non-English projects where I have the flag), which makes my participation unpredictable, and I request the right because I don't want anyone to waste time going thru my edits just to approve them. I consider myself a wikignome, and a wandering one at that, so the reviewer flag lets me make edits that need to be made, but that aren't controversial at all.
- Don't get me wrong, I'm not pissed or anything about the flag getting taken back; I very clearly wasn't using it at all, and I'm well aware that "adminship on Commons" is a different scope than "reviewer on Wikinews." I just disagree with the local policy (which is no big deal; there are plenty of policies at enwiki that I disagree with), but in my experience, I think that the policy could be better. As it stands, right now I have no inclination to start editing here again (considering how many other projects I'm semi-active at, while balancing Real Life), whereas I might have if I'd been prompted to make some token edits.
- But that's just my opinion, and one that ultimately doesn't (and frankly, shouldn't) matter very much. :) EVula // talk // 16:07, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- What a shame...I always hate seeing old users leaving. Well I hope one day you decide to come back. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 16:10, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- Eh, considering how much I jump between projects, I'm sure at some point I'll pop back over here; it just won't be until I get burnt out somewhere else (which happens regularly) and, honestly, I'll need to get tired of playing Skyrim, which I just started. ;) EVula // talk // 16:16, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- Oo, that looks like fun. Well, enjoy. :-) --Pi zero (talk) 16:42, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
