Notes needed[edit]

This article really needs some proper WN:OR notes. --SVTCobra 16:48, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"If you don't want to publish notes on Wikinews itself, whether for privacy or length reasons, feel free to e-mail the research to...an accredited reporter, who should note on the article's talk page that they have received the research notes.", Done! Sherurcij 17:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To whom did you send them? Just so I can remind them to post their confirmation here. --SVTCobra 17:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Myself, and I'm happy to confirm that as an accredited reporter, I received them, reviewed them, and was satisfied as to their authenticity. Sherurcij 17:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that is what is intended. --SVTCobra 19:13, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome the world of journalism, a reporter is not required to publicly post his notes or share them with others. If a legal situation arises, portions of my notes will be made freely available - others won't be surrendered without a warrant. Wikinews has a policy that states that an accredited reporter, a person of trust, must confirm a story's authenticity to prevent hoaxes in OR. Luckily however, I am just such an accredited reporter on WN, and thus my saying "the story is legitimate" is as valid as Cirt coming in and saying "His story is legit". Original Reporting Notes[edit]

It is site policy that original reporting notes are provided. Until such time as they are this cannot be published. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:07, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, let me just transcribe those for ya... Sherurcij 23:08, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a huge amount of facts stated in this article that are not covered by those notes. Where did they come from? --SVTCobra 23:12, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My telephone calls with contacts - sorry, didn't record them. Sherurcij 23:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's all that was needed: 'I spoke with the following people by phone: <list people here> Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 11:44, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can't list my source's names without their permission, sorry. But I'll be sure to put "I spoke to people" on the talk page of my articlesin the future, I can see how it's necessary and valuable. Sherurcij 16:24, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is hardly a classified matter. I doubt they'd care. But if you are worried about that, then ask them in the future. Then list your sources who say "yes". I dunno what you can do about sources who say no. Maybe say something like "I talked to 2 additional people, both of whom requested anonymity". That seems to be what real reporters do in that kind of situation. It's cool that you managed to speak to Art Eggleton:). Gopher65talk 18:58, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Friendly note", 'cool' is when you hear people like that refer to you by name as they recognise you - it still brings a smile to my face - though occasionally a cringe. "I don't want to be associated with you, shhh, I'm just a reporter!"
"Wikinews note", yup, sources are mine, where it's relevant to the article their names are obviously given - where they're behinds-the-scenes types, there's no reason or desire on my part to ask them permission, because I don't want/need to publish their names anyways. It's unfortunate, like "demanding our real names" to be accredited, WN would be happy/content with complete bullshit - I can just create a {{OR-justification}} template and make it say "Hey, I'm Sherurcij, I was there and I spoke to people and took photos" and they'd be like "Cool, that's what we need!". It's bullshit meant to stroke the collective ePenis that has no place in pseudo-professional reporting - yet there it is. sigh WN has great potential, but not so long as it's held back by people who think it's their personal blog. In fact, if possible, I would just line up anybody in the world who called themselves a "blogger" and have them stripped of all credentials. Ah well :) Sherurcij 02:14, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
