I think that the Bush quote's about his "wanting" to shut down gitmo is TOTALLY irrelivent to this artical. Its about what the chief lawyer to the british government says about this prison and its legality in international law. Give Bush his own news artical for his new justifications of continued detentions. Wanting to get concensus for delition before i just cut someones work, please post why you think it should stay if thats your view because i think they are a POV excuse for Bush. I think this would be a good compromise actually. The UN alleges torture at Guantanamo Bay is related, I think, and the reason is because the alledged torture is one of the reasons that the Attorney General has said Guantanamo should close (when he says it is "a symbol to many - right or wrong- of injustice"). The article also directly references "fears that prisoners have been mistreated" and so the alleged torture helps to tell the backstory behind these fears. I won't add it in straight away, for fear of starting another mini-revert war, but I reckon this is something we can get a consensus on? Surely the two are linked - even if it's not the case that one is causing the other, the attorney general clearly references the alleged mistreatments when he talks about being a "symbol of injustice". The BBC article links to Guantanamo man tells of 'torture', I don't see why we should do the same. It's hardly a big deal, I guess, but what harm can it do? I am not overly fond of the use of related stories for anything but extremely related topics. However I do not see a problem with the UN alleges torture at Guantanamo Bay one, it provides atleast part of the reasons why Guantanamo should be closed. --Cspurrier 14:39, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

War Crimes[edit]

Many Canadians are asking me why the USA's political and military leaders have not been charged with war crimes because of Guantanamo. I've got no answer other than they're above international law. Does anyone have a better answer? Neutralizer 11:53, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
