Downstyle
[edit]{{flag}} This category should really be downstyled to "Football match reports". Can this be done via a simple rename or will that break the archives? --SVTCobra 15:59, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- The only way I know is to replace the string on every article in that category. Redirecting a category is not advisable.
103.254.128.130 (talk) 16:06, 26 April 2018 (UTC)- Redirecting categories is not handled by the wiki software in any way that is at all useful; hence the advisability of not doing it. It wouldn't break the archives, but all the pages would still be categorized under the old name, despite the fact that the description page, under which those pages would still be listed, would be a redirect. --Pi zero (talk) 16:13, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Once upon a time, I knew how to use AWB. Without a bot tool, this is a very daunting task. --SVTCobra 16:17, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- There was a vote of the community, long ago, to rename Category:Religion to Category:Spirituality. Which I'm not sure I agree with, and as I recall the proposal is no longer altogether extant, but that's not my point. They renamed the corresponding portal, to Portal:Spirituality, but there were so many articles in Category:Religion that nobody wanted to undertake the renaming. And there are far more now. It's not practical to rename it, as things are. One can see that in future we might have better tools for doing stuff like that; but we don't now. I'd settle for completing the redistribution of Category:Taliban. --Pi zero (talk) 16:31, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- (Btw, at this moment the number of articles in Category:Religion is 666. I love it.) --Pi zero (talk) 16:37, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- (now that we have drifted away from the main discussion) I don’t like those people who claim to be atheist but celebrate 666 as if it were the best thing ever.

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
“I love it” and “I was amused” are two different things.
103.254.128.130 (talk) 17:11, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Without body language or even intonation, the intended sense of "I love it" in this case could easily fail to come across, certainly. --Pi zero (talk) 17:28, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- ... and "loving" or being "amused" by irony is not the same thing as "celebrating" the number of the beast. However, I think you two should continue this discussion on IRC, if at all. This is not the place. --SVTCobra 17:43, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
Fait accompli (see below). --Pi zero (talk) 19:14, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- I hope you don't feel I forced it upon you and the wider Wikinews community. I thought I had agreement, just concerns if it would take too much time or not get completed. --SVTCobra 21:52, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- I'm fine with it. --Pi zero (talk) 23:07, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thx, it's just that "Fait accompli" comes with this: happened or been decided before those affected hear about it, leaving them with no option but to accept, so I thought it was you objecting. --SVTCobra 23:53, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Migrate
[edit]I set up Category:Football match reports to gradually migrate. --SVTCobra 17:55, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- ~25% complete, break time --SVTCobra 20:35, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- Half way there. --SVTCobra 02:25, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
- 75% complete. --SVTCobra 15:44, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
- Half way there. --SVTCobra 02:25, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
I was checking/adding links/cats etc., but some need a lot of work. Should I just bang them out and we can sort the other stuff out later? --SVTCobra 08:58, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
- For my part, I don't tether these maintenance tasks to each other (though I sometimes choose to do a lot at once to a given article). Major example: I'm {{w}}-izing articles working backward chronologically by date from when we started using {{w}} (early February 2011); I've completed back to June 3, 2010. But I don't require, in general, that I do all the categorization and conversion-to-hard-local-links at the same time. That's what Category:Pages with categorizable local links is for. Someone suggested early in the effort that I was creating a lot of work for the future, and I replied that I wasn't creating it, it was already there and I was just leaving it easier to find than it had been. --Pi zero (talk) 11:48, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Migrated. --Pi zero (talk) 19:15, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thx for your edits to merge the histories. And I did't even think to save the talk page. Cheers, --SVTCobra 21:44, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
