What do you think of the casting choice for the 11th incarnation of Doctor Who?

[edit]

Looks promising

[edit]

The choice of Matt Smith seems promising, after seeing clips of his interview on Doctor Who Confidential and some of his prior work. Will be tough to wait until 2010 for his first onscreen appearance as the Doctor though. Cirt (talk) 11:02, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

12 regenerations approaching

[edit]

I seem to remember from way back when that a timelord cannot regenerate more than 12 times. If that is true, how are they going to resolve that when the time comes? This will be the third Doctor in, what, five years? What an accident-prone klutz he has become!  :-)—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.191.72.153 (talkcontribs)

There's so little interconsistency in the show that I doubt this will be a serious issue. If necessary they can construct some technobabble for why he's an exception. JoshuaZ (talk) 22:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

True, a Time Lord can only have 13 bodies but there is an option to get a whole new life cycle (see "The Five Doctors") so there is already an out.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.158.114.2 (talkcontribs)

I think he'll be good

[edit]

I wasn't too sure originally, but if Russell said he's good, then he must be good. --Mephiles (talk) 21:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Time Lord Regeneration

Brian Blessed

[edit]

I think Brian Blessed would have been awesome as the Doctor. "Hello! I'M THE DOCTOR!!" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.83.40.141 (talkcontribs)

Theme?

[edit]

I seems to remember something about him saving some immortals or so and his regenerations were disrupted in some way. He didnt know if he had 2 or 20 left. I cant, for the life of me, find the eposide(s) but would have been in the Baker years... forgive my memory from 20 years ago.

Almost like the Doctor keeps getting younger...dont ya think.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.16.138.118 (talkcontribs)

That almost sounds like the Peter Davison story 'Mawdryn Undead'. Actually, that story makes it clear that the Doctor has the rest of his life cycle left because of the temporal displacement of the 2 Brigadiers arriving at the right time.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.158.114.2 (talkcontribs)

eleventh doctor

[edit]

ive never heard of matt smith—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.148.52.140 (talkcontribs)

Keeps on getting younger and younger

[edit]

From the first doctor to the fifth he kept on getting younger then it started over again from 6 to now although...it would be kinda funney if they had a black doctor—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.245.38.221 (talkcontribs)

New Doctor Who? New Doctor Who?

matt smith? who the hell is the guy?

[edit]

I have never ever heard of matt smith. I think that even that he doesnt look to good he must be good because Russel said he was. Im looking forward to the new doctor who series but i will always think no one could ever get as good as David tennant. Is it me or do the doctors keep getting younger and younger?

<3x...David..Tennant..For..Ever..x<3 leave this at the end of your msg if you think that David Tennant shouldnt quit—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chloe299 (talkcontribs)

- I think that it will definitely be interesting to see how Smith takes on this role. I personally would have liked it if Tennant just kept his role. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.240.18.169 (talk) 23:36, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

ohhh!

[edit]

What a shame. i hope he is as good as the 10th...

My opinion

[edit]

I do not like the look of Matt Smith at all. I think David Tennent had a better image for the character. Though when David Tennent was revealed to be the Tenth one, I did not like the look of him either, so maybe I'll change my mind. 84.70.7.100 17:05, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I just refuse to believe it!!! Even though I've known for a few months now it seems just unlikely! David, if you happen to come across this comment, I want you to know that you are a great actor. You are my #1 favorite doctor. It's a shame you're leaving the show. Matt, if you come across this comment, all I can say is break a leg(though not literally!)I hope you bring as much to this role as all the previous doctors have done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.131.179.90 (talk) 23:20, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Missing Doctor

[edit]

Can anybody edit the main dr Who page? Matt Smith is the 12th Doctor, not the 11th. Articles listing the previous incarnations of the Doctor inivariable exclude Peter Cushing who made 2 film appearances in Dr Who And The Daleks(1965: Roy Castle as Ian, the Doctor's companion, see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059126/) and Daleks Invasion Earth:2150(1967: Bernard cribbens this time, see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060278/). Both films co-written by Terry nation.

Becaise I work in a large organization with one shared IP addess, I can't register to edit or contribute to discussions.

Cheers

Peter Cushing as the Doctor is not in the canon. That character was called "Doctor Who", not "The Doctor" and was human, not a time lord. --Brian McNeil / talk 08:38, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Spelling

[edit]

Minor point: As this article concerns a British TV series, shouldn't "program" be spelled in British English i.e. "programme" rather than the U.S. usage? BTW, I've seen several of Matt Smith's performances, both on the boards and on screen; he's a very talented, rather quirky actor; I think he'll make an interesting Doctor, and I look forard to his incarnation.

the new 11th Doctor(of doctor who) Opinion

[edit]

I think he will take on the role of the doctor in a funny, exiting, brilliant, and sad way. I also think he has the right qualiteez that the doctor needs. like the David Tennent took his own taste of the role and became something brilliant, I think he will take a new part on the series. I am also wandering what Matt Smith's sonic screwdriver will be like. So many Questions to ask.

                                                 JAMES WADE REGAN
                                                (AKA) the Doctor

Matt IS the eleventh and I'm looking forward to it

[edit]

The meta-crisis doctor didn't count as a regeneration. The regenerative process CONSUMES the body of the previous incarnation of a time lord - since the tenth had his handy spare hand he fed the 'backwash' from the healing process INTO the hand (instead of letting it consume his current form) so that he'd remain in his tenth form rather than fully regenerating. As we've seen with the regenerations thus far the older a time lord gets the harder it is to regenerate - the body that's created after the process being more unstable than its previous version. The final form being so unstable the regernation process fails and the time lord dies. If the Time Lord in question has 'altered his previous form' than he might survive... as per the Masters various... escapades ^^;

And, as we all know, the power of the Eye of Harmony and the link TO that eye, built into every TARDIS, can be used to 'purify' the damaged links in a time lords DNA. Giving them a whole new line of lives (like the Time Lords did when they brought the Master back and how often the Master tried to steal that power) to live out.

NOTE: With that 'summation' out of the way I can say that the rules for Time Lords have been re-written so MANY times that its hard to know WHAT applies one episode to the next LMAO but for myself I consider Matt to be the Eleventh Doctor.

As for my opinion on Matt I have to say BRILLIANT ^_^ I HATED the casting of Tennant in the role of the tenth doctor - some hack from Harry Pooter trying to take over the role of one of my favorite fictional characters. I also hated the casting of Eccleston LMAO - who the heck WAS that hack, I though, who dared to think himself the Doctor? Obviously a lot of people thought worse than that if the death threats and weird fan riots are anything to judge by ^^;

Matt is the first I'm being optimistic on - he's got the hair, the nose and the weird accent (the doctors have always had one from the sevenths weird brogue to the thirds lisp to the ninths northern habits) and, as with Tom Baker and Tennant and McCoy, the BEST Doctors have always been unknown actors - Matt's going to rock pure and simple ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.164.35 (talk) 22:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Give Matt A Chance

[edit]

I am hoping to have Matt accepted as the New Doctor - It is nice to see a young fellow get the chance at establishing a foothold as the character that so many identify with over the last few decades. He's got my vote. Can't wait for the new series to get off the ground. Stay safe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Flatfoot77 (talkcontribs) 02:58, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

End of Series (again)?

[edit]

Smith reminds me of the disastrous Sylvester McCoy who was so bad he killed the series for 15 years. I am stunned that the franchise is going back to that kind of anti-sophisticate child savant character again. The producers must have forgotten history. Add isn't Russell Davies leaving the show? I have to wonder what kind of future the series has - one or two seasons? Well, maybe we could look forward to it reviving around the year 2027. ProfGiles (talk) 21:23, 2 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jeron-oh-no!

[edit]

Lets face it, when we saw Matt Smith for the first time, we all quietly thought the BBC had gone mad portraying the Doctor as an upper class public school boy, but we knew from quality television such as Merlin and new Dr Who, that we would probably be pleasantly surprised and be eating our words when his time came. After 3 minutes of footage of Matt as Doctor, culminating in an enthusiastic cry of "Jeronimo", I feel quietly comfortable predicting an imminant television car crash. I mean, come on. it couldn't have been much more cringe worthy if he had cried "Cowabunga!". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.2.67 (talk) 15:48, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

The fourth Doctor was the best and last decent one we saw

[edit]

As far as I am concerned, no one could be better than Tom Baker in the role of Doctor Who. I know, I'm showing my age, but to me, he was the epitome of the character. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 19:04, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Matt Smith is going to be fantastic, yes he wont be a david or even a tom but every doctor are their own person. I hope ppl give him a chance. Rock on Saturday! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.16.134.127 (talk) 12:22, 2 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
