Thanks for alerting me to this. Whenever you see junk, just mark it with {{delete}}, so then it's marked for speedy deletion. I think that its pretty clear that user:Language123 isn't here to contribute to Wikinews. He should stay blocked because he is a vandal. According to our username policy, inflammatory, deliberately confusing, and other inappropriate usernames are not allowed, and in certain circumstances, admins may block accounts with such usernames. —FellowWikiNews (W) 23:26, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I thought so also in which case an indefinite block for a single spam edit seems to be uneccessarily biting(does this carry over from the 'pedia or not? Most wikimedia projects have some form of this)- if it were a username block he should have been told that. JoshuaZ 06:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

eCanadaNow

hi, reg. the US_India deal article. eCanadaNow used to only mirror our articles, and used to attribute it (to "WN"). since this one was attributed to "Agencies" and included the quote that our article didn't have (i had never see them do derivative work from our stuff before), i tagged the article. sorry for the bother. best, — Doldrums(talk) 09:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

edits to old articles

Articles that are not marked breaking are usually considered "done" after a few days. I reverted your edit to remove the image as the article is several days old now. DragonFire1024 22:10, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

For one, the image was published under: Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation. making it usable on Wikinews or any Wikimedia project and basically any site. If the individual did not want his image to be known he himself would not have uploaded it. So to remove the image basing it on harassment or whatever is not actionable. If the user has an issue with his photo on any Wikimedia site then he has the right, as the author, to request the image to be deleted. DragonFire1024 19:14, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Lee Mortimer dead

I doubt the user who posted that page cares much about your condolences on his talk page. While at first glance it looks rather memorialistic, it actualy seems to be an atteack page. "He will be sorely missed, only by his pet fish" seems pretty degrading, and R.I.H. = rest in Hell (a term I have been known to use regarding politicians and pop music artists, although I generally refrain from using it when they have actually recently been deceased). Your intimidation of witnesses to a crime

In re: you're hateful comments and intimidation of witnesses on a user collaboratio page: Your bluntness reveals a lack of sharpness. Checkuser could reveal what other articles were edited from that IP. Coupled with information gleaned from a court-ordered search of that IP's records, the checkuser info, gathered with a warrant or by cooperation from whoever claims to be in charge of Wikipedia that day, investigators will have a smoking gun that leads them to the terminal where the edits were entered. Humint will wrap things up from there. Stay tuned. You bet I'm dangerous -- dangerous to criminal conspirators.

Accusing critics of pontification and disruption is standard bullying, endorsed and modeled by leaders at the highest levels of Wikipedia, including by one of two founders who remains active in the project. Title change

Hello JZ,

I changed the title. It's imperative to have either 'White House' or Bush Admin' in the title. You objected to the title being too long? Really? That was your reason for taking out 'Bush Admin'? Too long? How so? One current featured article is entitled "Smoke from massive warehouse fire in Buffalo, New York USA can be seen 40 miles away'. Much longer. Fast evolution observed in butterflies

Very good article. I:

• put all the latin stuff in italics, as should be done for foreign languages
• put the news content before the background information, which is the proper way to go in news articles
• put in images, which I think are essential for an article like this

Just some ideas.

Televangelist Jerry Falwell dies at age 73

I wanted to bug you about this article. I noticed that the article was in the category Category:Creationism. While Falwell was a creationist, that wasn't a major part of his public persona and isn't mentioned in the obit at all, so I was thinking of requesting the category be removed. Yeah, actually I would if it were a religious group. In fact, if it were quite an important aspect of the religion, it might cause my departure. But let's focus on the question in hand, which is slightly less serious. Why do they care? Put that to them, but they do. No real names, no real faces as far as their concerned. (on a related side note, I understand (but can't verify) the only paper to publish an unmasked picture of any of them was some Finnish tabloid that seriously considered the possibility of bankruptcy, although good management means their back to where they were before now). If you really want to do it, then go ahead if need be, although bear in mind 1) I don't like it (I never have the heart to revert people removing them on Wikipedia, I leave it for someone else) and 2)there is little way to measure any damage caused. I do see why we might want to use the names, but I share the view of many fans: it's pretty useless informantion, and if they don't want it out there, we might as well respect that. I, at least, am sensible enough about it not to give up on a site merely for that reason; many others take offense and leave. That was my concern when I made the change. Time references

While I agree (and like to think I kinda "coined" that paricular notation of mentioning the time zone and the UTC offset), I can't even keep up with it on current news, nevermind on archived articles. Hi, you can't publish "as of" a date in the past. Just as an extreme example to illustrate the concept, one cannot publish a story dated September 1, 1939 "Germany invades Poland", just because Wikinews hasn't had the story yet. Just like print newspapers we can't report "in the past" but only about the past. We have to do so from the present. --SVTCobra 01:22, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

AP, Reuters, BBC they can all fall prey to pov. If you had a quote from someone, like Kasparov or an analyst from a think that says "This is like when Stalin sent people to the gulags" then include the quote. Hi, Joshua, I glanced at you Munroe interview. I notice it contain many direct links to external sites which is generally frowned upon here. I am not sure how best to tackle this, but I notice that some were to individual comics which are single-frame. Perhaps, Munroe would let us use those images. Yeah, I thought about that issue. I thought given the nature of it made sense (although maybe using the <ref> tags to the comics at the bottom might make sense also). I'll talk to Munroe and find out. His comics are all under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 License, which is slightly more restrictive than the one we use so we can't just port them over directly. Maybe I as a wiki noob should be blocked

I guess you have already looked at my response to your comment. I wish Wikinews had a much more formal Op-Ed section. I wish I where a pro at making editorials, because all I seem to be doing is confusing admins, getting my facts wrong (Bush did go to Harvard business school, in addition to Yale, vernacular aside .) and getting the occasional nasty/entertaining response from Anonymous101. I wish I where more familiar/experienced with Wiki policies and formating. So I will have an "operational pause" (e.g. no more “flaming") for the next month, play with sandboxes and maybe after which I can be a "professional troll". Not only that, but I plan to thoroughly cite every flame after said operational pause, so this particular post will not be out of complete hypocrisy. QUINTIX (talk) 12:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

1) I hope you don't mind, but when I read the above comment by brain screamed in pain at the horrible formatting, so I fixed it.

2) *points to above comment* Wow, there are some nutters out there, aren't there? Since when is *plasma* a chemical element? Chemical properties are primarily determined by the electron shell... which plasma doesn't have. Plasma is a phase of matter, yes, but not a chemical element (which is probably what he meant, if he knew what he was talking about). Also there are more than 4 states of matter, but a singularity isn't one of them:P. Anyway, just thought I'd randomly rant about that guy's comment on your talk page. Please ignore me;). Okay, not really, but I am requesting your participation in the following Water Cooler Discussion: OR and Broadcast report. The discussion involves the need for specific policy concerning how Original Reporting relates to information recieved from a broadcast report of an event. This can include both news-style reports and non-news reports, such as a sporting event. We've created the Wikinews:Writing contest 2013, which will start on April 1 and end on June 1. It is modeled on the successful 2010 contest. It would be a really great time for you, as an inactive Wikinews accredited reporter, to renew your credentials by doing some original reporting or conducting interviews. People should be around to interview to prevent a backlog, and several reviewers have access to scoop to make it easier to review any original reporting you do.
