Mind Adding the Unblock Template?

Would an admin mind adding the Unblock template I created a while back to this page to assist blocked users? Thanks, Thunderhead - (talk) 18:31, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Icon

{{editprotected}} Please add the stop icon () on the first line. Size it at 30px, like I did.

Why? (not nessecarily saying its a bad idea, but is it a good idea to flash so many icons in peoples faces). Bawolff 22:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
It is just a good idea IMO. Big67 00:23, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're going to have to do better then that to get it changed. Bawolff 00:45, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Because the version on Wikipedia and Commons have icons. Big67 20:00, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

New block message

{{Editprotected}}

Can someone change the blocked text like this?

Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing.
$7,You were blocked by $1 for the following reason (see our blocking policy):
$2

Your IP address is $3, This block has been set to expire: $6.

You are not blocked from reading pages, only from editing them. If you were only intending to read a page and are seeing this message, you probably followed a red link. These are links to pages that do not exist, so they take users to an editing screen. You should have no problem if you follow only blue links.

If you would like to know when the block will expire, please search for your name or IP on the block list.

If the reason given is "username", "user...", or "contact an administrator for verification purposes", then you or someone with whom you share an IP address has most likely been blocked for choosing an inappropriate or suspicious username. Please read our username policy for more information. If you do not feel that the name is inappropriate, or if the name was registered by somebody other than yourself, please contact the blocking administrator, as described below.

Innocent?

Sometimes IP ranges or shared proxies are blocked from editing Wikinews. This means that innocent people sometimes can't edit. If this is the case, it should be explained in the reason given above.

Also, some individual dynamic IP addresses may be blocked, usually for 24 hours to 1 year. Occasionally, users with dynamic IPs will be blocked accidentally, due to that fact that their present IP was previously used by a blocked user.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If this problem affects you repeatedly, and you would like to help us resolve this issue, you will need to contact a Wikipedia administrator and your internet service provider (ISP). The administrator should be able to obtain the time, date, and IP address used for the inappropriate behaviour in question, and describe what the problem was. You can then pass this information on to your ISP, explaining that you are unable to edit Wikipedia due to the inappropriate actions of another person using this ISP, and ask them to remedy the problem.

What to do next

You can either wait for the block to expire, or contact $1 to resolve the problem that led to the block.

If you wish to contact $1, you may do so via email, or by adding "{{unblock|your reason here}}" to your user talk page (which you can edit even while blocked, unless it is protected) to request unblocking.

Please note: While this block may be upsetting or unexpected, abuse of appeal processes, repeatedly using the unblock template when denied, personal attacks, or impolite conduct may lead to the removal of your ability to edit your talk page.

If after discussing the matter with $1 you believe the block is unfair, you may appeal the block. You will need to know:

  • Your IP address, which is $3
  • The name of the blocking admin, which is $1
  • The reason you were blocked, which is:
$2

Note that you may not use the "email this user" feature unless you have a Wikipedia account and a valid email address registered in your user preferences.

Why? At first blush, this looks like instruction bloat. --Pi zero (talk) 11:20, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
No, it isn't; it is just a design to make the message look better. 2602:306:CC2E:EFB0:C8DD:260C:3B8F:FECF (talk) 05:30, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Uninformative. Aggressively wrong content (references to Wikipedian policies and practices are irrelevant on Wikinews) matters more than superficial appearance, even if bloating the message were objectively an improvement in superficial appearance. --Pi zero (talk) 09:01, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are currently unable to edit Wikinews.

You are still able to view pages, but you are not currently able to edit, move, or create them.

Editing from $7 has been blocked (disabled) by $1 for the following reason(s):

$2

This block has been set to expire: $6.

Even if blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page and email other editors and administrators.

What does this mean?

What is a block?

A block is a measure used to protect Wikinews from possible improper activity in breach of editorial policies. Blocks can apply to a user account, an IP address, or a range of IP addresses that is deemed responsible for or related to problematic activity. The reason for your block is $2.

Most common causes

  1. Problem with your editing or Wikinews behavior (under any account or IP address) - your account or a connected IP has been used in a problematic way or there is a concern about your editing. The reason should be in the box above.
  2. Problem with your username - your username was unsuitable and has been blocked, you need to choose another before continuing.
  3. Unintended triggering of anti-vandalism systems (known as "collateral damage") - your IP address unfortunately happens to match an IP address used by a blocked account. Ask for further information and/or request unblocking. An administrator or checkuser will investigate and consider whether it is likely this has happened.

What do I do now?

  • If instructions are given in the block message, follow them.
  • If you have never edited Wikinews before and/or do not have an account, consider requesting one at http://toolserver.org/~acc/, which allows you to edit despite the block on your IP address. Requests to unblock your IP address even if you are innocent will generally not be granted. We apologize for the inconvenience, but you must request an account and log in using that account in order to edit. This is necessary to prevent abusive users who may be using a similar IP address to yours.
  • If you wish to appeal the block, or you believe you have been blocked by mistake, please see the following section.

Appealing

The current block will automatically expire $6. You have many routes to appeal the block or its duration. Firstly, if you are a registered editor and have a valid e-mail address confirmed, you can e-mail $1 or another administrator. This feature can be removed if abused.

Alternatively, you may appeal the block by adding

{{unblock|your reason here}}

to the bottom of your user talk page. You must state a reason for this, and the block can then be discussed. Our guide to appealing blocks might help you write your unblock request.

Please note: While this block may be upsetting or unexpected, abuse of appeal processes, repeatedly using the unblock template when denied, personal attacks, or impolite conduct may lead to the removal of your ability to edit your talk page.

  • Not done, expansion for its own sake goes against the grain of how WN traditionally operates, and will need community consensus. In future please refrain from being so rude as to tag every single admin (active or not) because, as far as I can gather, you demand a response within hours. Editprotected requests will often take a back seat for weeks while day-to-day mainspace work is in hand. This is a small project with limited resources.
