all these icons should be in a category --SVTCobra 14:24, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Could you explain that?

Well, templates have a category which summarizes their use like "Message templates" etc., so are these for a mobile app or what? --SVTCobra 14:31, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
It is just a redirect, and just like gay has no category, I don’t think this one should have, either.

these are a very specific type of redirect. should we call them icon redirects? --SVTCobra 14:38, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
it would be useful to have something to click on to see them all together. --SVTCobra 14:40, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. We don't have word redirects, afterall. And these are emojis, after all. And they belong to unicode, and that is the charset we use.

Well, all redirects were "word redirects" until now. --SVTCobra 14:45, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I can see certain benefits of having that category, but aren't the word redirects set of unicode symbols after all?

where would people see these redirects? what is this project all about? I do't even know where to talk about this, so I just chose a random emoji's talk page. --SVTCobra 15:04, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
This seems an okay place to talk. If it seems like a big thing (which I'm not at all sure it is), it could be {{flag}}ged. We've flagged a whole bunch of discussions lately, vs using the water cooler (if it were worth moving, which I doubt, I'd use the proposals water cooler for this).

Though we don't have a lot of redirect categories, we do have e.g. Category:Non-news mainspace redirects. --Pi zero (talk) 15:15, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

We had this discussion on your talk, and where is it useful: when dearching for categories from my cellphone or chromebook.

So the idea is to enter an emoji in the search bar and get redirected to that topic?--SVTCobra 15:21, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
How does Category:Emoji redirects or Category:Mainspace emoji redirects sound? --SVTCobra 16:13, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think there's probably no need for the "mainspace" qualifier in the category name. If we end up with emoji redirects in some other namespace, I see no reason to omit them from the category (whereas with "non-news mainspace redirects" the category was meant to exclude redirects outside mainspace). --Pi zero (talk) 17:42, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
