Original Reporting notes

[edit]
  • Turned up at the Corn Exchange about 16:40. Virtually no protesters present at that time, but 5 satellite trucks from the press were present.
Literally only saw 3 or 4 openly pro-UKIP people outside the Corn Exchange.
Farage's visit wasn't listed on the board, but a hapless couple were having their wedding reception at the same time.
RIC (Radical Independence Campaign) had advertised their planned protest as-early at May 4th via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/279427085571325/
Numbers likely peaked around 300, with quite a significant police presence.

Taxis and prior protest.
  • Have spoken to a number of taxi drivers regarding the problems getting Farage out of Canongate pub last time he visited; the cited number of taxis varies between three and six; with tales of how Farage was declined as a fare varying in colourfulness. As Evening News report notes, he was taken away from the pub in a police van. --Brian McNeil / talk 17:40, 10 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
