I'm not getting into an article move war here, but surely a more concise title than the current "Benazir Bhutto, former Pakistani Prime Minister and democracy campaigner, killed in a suicide attack" can be used?!? Guinness2702 14:08, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Something simple like "Benazir Bhutto Assassinated" is unique enough and concise enough to be sufficient. Guinness2702 14:10, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
agreed. Benazir Bhutto killed in suicide attack should do, i think. –Doldrums(talk) 14:11, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
'Assassination' implies a political conspiracy, vs the act of determined extremists, IIRC ShakespeareFan00 14:16, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, fair point. Also agree with doldrums, but was personally reluctant to use "suicide" in the original title, as it wasn't clear at the time. I'm happy to go with Doldrum's suggestion now. Guinness2702 14:17, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
ShakespeareFan, would you want to imply that any attacker who blew himself up afterward must surely be an isolated individual who is not part of some group with a larger political agenda? As metal bullets to her neck on top of (or rather instead of) the explosion killed her, it seems obvious that this is more than just "some suizide bomber" who happened to be near her rally. --Gwyndon 14:51, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some quotes to be added later

[edit]
Terrorists are trying to derail the election process. I can't say whether Bhutto was the target of this attack or whether the attacker was trying to create chaos and bloodshed.

—Javed Iqbal Cheema, Pakistani Interior Ministry Spokesman

The man first fired at Bhutto's vehicle. She ducked and then he blew himself up.

—Mohammad Shahid, Pakistani police officer

Farzana Raja, PPP's senior official It is the act of those who want to disintegrate Pakistan because she was symbol of unity. They have finished the Bhutto family. They are enemies of Pakistan. Farzana Raja, PPP's senior official
It is too soon to confirm the number of dead from the party’s side. Private television channels are reporting twenty dead.

—Farah Ispahani, a PPP's official

We are traumatised. People all over are crying. Everyone is saying that this Army has killed Benazir. There is going to be more bloodshed. Will the world now finally wake up?

—Asma Jehangir, Chairperson, Pak Human Rights Commission

.

I'm shocked. My sympathy goes to her husband and children. We were looking forward to democracy in Pakistan. The attack shows terror is on the march in Pakistan.

—Natwar Singh, former Pakistani External Affairs minister

In her death the subcontinent has lost an outstanding leader who worked for democracy and reconciliation in her country. The manner of her going is a reminder of the common dangers that our region faces from cowardly acts of terrorism and of the need to eradicate this dangerous threat.

—Manmohan Singh, Indian Prime Minister.

Mrs. Bhutto's contribution to democracy, to the improvement of India-Pakistan relations, and to the restoration of normalcy within Pakistan will be an inspiration

—Pranab Mukherjee, Indian External Affairs minister.

In targeting Benazir Bhutto, extremist groups have in their sights all those committed to democratic processes in Pakistan. They cannot and must not succeed. This is a time for restraint but also unity.

—David Miliband, British Foreign Secretary

We strongly condemn this terrorist act, present our condolences to the family and friends of Benazir Bhutto and hope that Pakistani authorities will provide for national stability. The Pakistani government must do its best to ensure the maximum stability in the election period and prevent terrorist acts against Benazir Bhutto and other political leaders.

—Mikhail Kamynin, Russian External Affairs Ministry spokesman.

We hope the Pakistani government will identify and bring to justice those behind such a criminal act and restore tranquility to the country.

—Mohammad Ali Hosseini, Iranian External Affairs Ministry spokesman.

I am surprised that the French Wikinews has no article on this. All the other languages do and this is a very important event at the moment. FellowWiki Newsie 16:53, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Polish Wikinews has no article on Bhutto's death as well, as far as I see. odder
I'm editing the German Wikinews on this as well and try to keep the news consistant. --Gwyndon 17:30, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
