Talk:Brisbane, Australia Magistrates Court charges two cotton farmers with $20m fraud
Add topicNotes
[edit]1. Couldn't figure out the place or date of the arrest.
2. Sources say 'over 20M fraud' however further read suggests 31M grant received. Maybe they used say 5% (as an example) in a valid way but 95% were fraud. To not mislead the reader I am hopeful that the '31m fraud' wording does not read as 'they used 100% of the money wrongly'. This might need to be corrected.

- @Gryllida: Afaics, one source says "up to $31m in grants", but all the sources say defrauding the government out of $20m. So it appears to me that whatever total amount he got in grants (plural), "more than $20m" is how much he's accused of defrauding the government out of; the renaming 11m or so would be grants he either was either entitled to or, at least, is not being formally accused of not being entitled to. I'm not sure whether I'm going to be comfortable making that change during review; but I hope to do a bunch of other review before deciding. --Pi zero (talk) 22:09, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Avoid using "$" as is in the headline. It is confusing as readers would not know which one it is. Instead "AU$" -- addition of two characters would make things clear. (On another note, m in lede should be changed to "million". (The lede is not so well written, so there aren't any brownie points)

- Missed the m; figuring in the lede it's just minor enough to just fix. Probably would have been better to use "AU$" (or is that "A$"?) in both places, as it's recognizably a quantity of money and, as noted, less likely to be misunderstood. Might tweak the headline once this is off the main page. --Pi zero (talk) 12:51, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
