@Pi zero: Not sure if we should have this, but it's existed for almost 10 years, so I protected per usual procedure. --SVTCobra 00:00, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@SVTCobra:
  • As long as it's here, I agree it should get the usual treatment. That's taking no position on whether or not we should keep it.
  • There are no links currently using it at all.
  • It seems we might want a page here that pulls in {{w}} links with this target and says you probably meant so-and-so, but if that's what you meant you should target them specifically. Technically it wouldn't be a disambiguation page because we don't have any other possible targets to suggest (and neither does Wikipedia), but the machinery for disambiguation pages ought to do the job well enough.

Similarly, we have Sarkozy which for some reason seemed like a less common name to me. Cheers, --SVTCobra 00:57, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@SVTCobra: See what you think of the wording. --Pi zero (talk) 01:11, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Is this like a usage note for writers? I supposes so. I don't know how readers would land here. And frankly, I don't know what the second sentence means. My worry is more what happens when a brand new reader types "musharraf" or "sarkozy" in the search bar. Do we want the auto-search to suggest the correct pages or let them travel to these disambig/redirect pages (whatever they end up being)? --SVTCobra 01:22, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
On an open wiki all readers should be welcomed as potential contributors, so instructions on what-to-do-if-you-see-this should be be written with that in mind. (Even though, ideally, if anyone were to create a wikilink with target "Musharraf", somebody would notice before publication and our general readership would never get to see it.) I doubt if I'm up to composing this improvement just atm (toward the end of my day), but yes we want to do that. --Pi zero (talk) 01:35, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reading the same words at "Sarkozy" I feel you are trying to tell our writers "DON'T USE THIS LINK" but as an writer here, as long as I don't get a red link, I think I did OK. i would rarely click the link as a writer to see the actual target (with local links that is). --SVTCobra 01:38, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, fuckmesideways. Both names are redirects on Wikipedia. I should have probably just said nothing. I hate when that happens. Sorry, --SVTCobra 01:43, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
