Notes

[edit]
  • Neither of the sources gave the middle name, but I don't think a source is needed to include that; if the reviewer wants to confirm, see Elijah Cummings and WashingtonPost article.
  • For the "Politicians from across the political spectrum..." paragraph, the two examples are from CBS. The introduction to the paragraph, saying they were across the political spectrum, is common knowledge (Democrat vs Republican) / synthesis of the examples; no objections to removal.
  • Convenience links to DupDet: Baltimore Sun, CBS

@Pi zero: about https://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=US_Representative_Elijah_Cummings_dies_at_age_68&diff=4523378&oldid=4523377 - we covered this in U.S. House issues subpoena to secretary of state as special envoy to Ukraine resigns (and even mentioned Cummings specifically) - I didn't think a source was needed to include it, as (relatively) common knowledge, but see, eg, https://www.foxnews.com/politics/what-elijah-cummings-death-means-for-impeachment - "Cummings, along with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., was leading the inquiry" --DannyS712 (talk) 23:46, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Pi zero: I saw that you added it as a source (https://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=US_Representative_Elijah_Cummings_dies_at_age_68&type=revision&diff=4523382&oldid=4523378) - does this mean that I can use the source to develop the article further (for the next 24 hours)? --DannyS712 (talk) 00:02, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
You could have added it yourself; in effect you did add it yourself, naming it as a source here on the talk page. As I was reviewing your edit, I would not be permitted to add a source and then sight the edit myself, except that I was merely moving to the article page what you had already said here.

As far as further material is concerned, a certain degree of caution is of course warranted when using Fox as a source since it's more-than-ordinarily biased; though of course we don't assume anything is completely unbiased. (I did note the Sun, when quoting what Trump said after Cummings's death, made no interpretive remark but simply preceded it with some history on Trump and Cummings, which struck me as neatly played neutrality.)

I did spend considerable time on the specific-committees point. The source said "three panels", without naming the other two. I wouldn't hesitate to identify Oversight and Intelligence as the two most prominent, but even the en.wp article on the inquiry says there are six House committees involved, so I concluded it was not trivial enough to be easily let through, and looked for a way to cut it back cleanly (I was quite pleased with the solution I came up with). The previous Wikinews article you mention only mentions those three committees in a narrow situation. --Pi zero (talk) 00:19, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
