Talk:Waymo announces expansion of autonomous taxi coverage in Arizona, San Francisco
Add topicQuote from Panigrahi
[edit]"We will" is doubled in one quote from Panigrahi in The Verge. I can find no other source quoting this part of his answer, so I added {{sic}}. On the other hand, I went with the AP's "there are clearly additional learnings" instead of The Verge's "there's". Heavy Water (talk) 04:18, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- The Waypoint was needed for tenses in the lead, and is now used for "on its blog". It is unclear even from The Waypoint when Waymo is set to begin servicing these new areas. Heavy Water (talk) 22:44, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- But I referred to the coverage in the future tense (in a way permitted by WN:FUTURE) as that is how the sources described it. Heavy Water (talk) 22:57, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Notes
[edit]Emails forwarded to scoop. Heavy Water (talk) 22:46, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- I don't have access to scoop. Is there anything more than the "declined to comment" bit in there? Cheers, SVTCobra 04:58, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- They also pointed me to this Arizona Commerce Authority page and Executive Order 2015-09 (available here) for "general background...about autonomous vehicle use." Would it be considered ethical to email it to you via Wikimedia email? Heavy Water (talk) 18:57, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, wait. I realize one can't forward anything through Wikimedia. Heavy Water (talk) 19:24, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- @SVTCobra: I'm glad you're reviewing this, but how are you going to verify my emails? Heavy Water (talk) 13:43, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- I am only going to rely on what is here in the talk page notes. If there are parts I need to remove, so be it. Alternatively, you could upload screenshots of emails (with private information redacted) to a service such as Imgur or perhaps even locally on Wikinews. SVTCobra 14:04, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

- Why is Phoenix elevated way above San Francisco? Shouldn't both cities be part of the focal event? SVTCobra 18:54, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- The structure is quite similar to The Verge and the AP's, in that San Francisco is only given passing mention until the entire plan for Phoenix has been described. But I see I failed to mention San Francisco in the headline and lead (I did not originally think it was as much a part of the story as Phoenix). Heavy Water (talk) 19:03, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- This is ample verification. I just wonder if it doesn't look like we sent our query to the wrong people? Otherwise, I am almost done with the review. Perhaps the AZ Dept of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division was the correct agency to contact. See this link. SVTCobra 15:18, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Well, given how San Francisco's regulators felt free to express their views to the State of California's Public Utilities Commission, influencing (or attempting to influence) the decision process even though the state would give the final approval of the program, I was thinking this local agency would have something to say. But that can work differently by state, of course, and the state seems to be the sole authority for this in Arizona, yeah. Heavy Water (talk) 15:31, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- So do you want to leave it in? SVTCobra 17:20, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah. I think it's relevant. Heavy Water (talk) 17:29, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

- Thank you. I actually had two OR pieces before. Heavy Water (talk) 18:04, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry. I forgot. I do remember the Dr. Morris piece now. --SVTCobra 18:09, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't think it was sufficient for categorization in Category:Electric vehicles, but OK. Heavy Water (talk) 18:36, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- I know Waymo has done testing with non-electric cars, but when I explore Waymo One all photos are of the I-Pace (both SF and PHX). They don't actually have a listing of what their fleet is. But I think it makes sense to include it. SVTCobra 18:53, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
