ZANU-PF[edit]
Note capitalization, hyphenated; this is the preferred acronym for the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front, Robert Mugabe's political party in Zimbabwe.
Zapatero, José Luis Rodríguez[edit]
Note diacritics. Spanish politician elected Prime Minister of Spain in 2004, 2008; has announced he will not run again in 2012. Note he is Mr Zapatero at second mention, prefering the matronym rather than the patronym Rodríguez.
-ze[edit]
This is a regional English spelling issue. In general, the United States uses -ze while all other English regions use -se, with two noteworthy exceptions: capsize and synthesize use -ze. Use the standard in use where the news event occurs.

zeugma[edit]
A rhetorical technique using a single verb or adjective to apply to two or more objects, often inappropriately yet making sense. Examples:
- We ate coffee and cake.
- The queen takes counsel and tea. (Pope)
- She lowered her standards by raising her glass,
Her courage, her eyes and his hopes. (Flanders and Swan)

Zionism, Zionist[edit]
A religious belief in the right of people of Jewish faith to a homeland in Palestine. Note capitalisation. Do not use constructions as "ultra-Zionist" or "orthodox-Zionist".
zeros[edit]
Prefer over zeroes, although the latter is also correct. (See also -oes and plurals.)
złoty, zloty[edit]
The l with a stroke, ł, is the correct spelling of the Polish currency.
