From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!

What?

How can you still write articles about war and conflicts with this terrible bias? Im out of words and dont understand whats with you. Not sure if you will learn either after all this time here. Are amerikkans much like you? Then I understand your national problems. Or are you special? Ok, sorry then. international (talk) 22:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Sandbox

Can't forthcoming interviews be sandboxed? Prepared interviews are certainly not wholly spirited and definitely lack integrity. Mike33 (talk) 03:35, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Revert reason?

Could you respond to Talk:Chinese version of Wikinews gets blocked in China#Wikipedia blocks in 2008? please? --InfantGorilla (talk) 21:52, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Ted Kennedy

As this is breaking news, do you agree that we immediately publish? R.T. 20:13, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't see why not, but will still need a review ASAP. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 20:17, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Caroline Kennedy

Eh, Caroline Kennedy drops bid for New York Senate seat has already been published. Working to merge is probably a better idea. --SVTCobra 03:05, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

There is NO COPYRIGHT ISSUES with this article they are completely different. Please recheck both articles and you will see the difference if no action is taken I will have to take this issue to Wikinews. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Andimahony (talkcontribs)

Restore request

Please restore Lance Armstrong's 'Tour Down Under' press conference (to my user space if you prefer.) Sorry I missed the deletion warning, but as there are 2 more stages, we could still update + use this. --InfantGorilla (talk) 11:50, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Done, but there are no sources, and its just under a week old. Was also marked abandoned two times. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 12:00, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Can you restore Talk:Lance Armstrong's 'Tour Down Under' press conference too, please?
Your points are taken to heart - I will edit out the editorial opinion. Since it is OR, it doesn't need sources, though if 121.209.17.234 (talk · contribs) doesn't tell us how they viewed the press conference, I will have to get hold of a tape or transcript and do my own reporting.

Welcome

Hey! Thanks for the welcome. I'm obviously new here, but my main work is on Wikipedia. Sorry for the delay in response. :) —La Pianista (TC) 06:25, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Further to your suggestions around OR for the article Sumo: Asashoryu wins New Year Grand Tournament I too would have liked to add more content, in particular interviews with local fans, fighters etc however i know about 10 words of japanese which usually involves beer ordering, food and taxi back to hotel....Seriously...point noted and as/if the opportunity arises and i am more familiar with the context then i too prefer OR over researched news items......in fact i think WN should have a far great push for OR as this then becomes the real value WN compared to an almost new aggregator. "Two British footwear chains enter administration"

Hi There,

I have been working on changing the use of the term "administration". I have removed two references which only leave two uses in the article. I have kept these as they relate with the sources on one and the other i believe is hard to change. I understand your point that it is a mainly British term. I would appreciate it if you would consider re-reviewing the article. Keep up the good work. ;)

Cheers,

WTF?

WTF? You deleted "Protesters in Lithuania clash with police". I wanna know y. 71.201.88.178 04:04, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Because it was tagged abandoned for several days. After an article in development is not edited for several days, it is tagged abandoned and then deleted 2-3 days after that. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 11:40, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

You called?

Well u wrote in my talk page to talk to you, well is there anything you want to tell to me? and about that article, well thats a true story

It's Okay

It's just that you were completely ignoring the points of my argument, I suggest you back and read things from the beginning of that argument and take a closer look at what was said. You listed that UN resolution, but the UN has never deemed Hamas a terrorist organization. You then said that Hamas is a terrorist organization, I replied by agreeing and saying that by that same logic the IDF is a terrorist organization as well, but in a much greater proportion. You then responded by saying I didn't think Hamas was a terror organziation, at that point I felt like you had either ignored or misread what I had just said, so it offended me a little. Anyway no hard feelings Soapy (talk) 04:52, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I need some answers

I didnt want to delete that but you people always seem to have some problem with the content in it even after lots of deletion and and trying not to be as biased as possible, but here we are facing real life situation, a real life problem and on wikinews we are just giving an insight to the whole situation and the aftermath of the article which got published in Gulf News and Notes with different headings. What i want is an actual answer, you want sources, i gave the sources and exactly what are we suppose to write here on wikinews? its not only breaking news should get chance for publication, is this not news? is this not related to the people, is news not meant to be heard by the people, in other words the truth. i'm ready to co-operate, but i'm not getting suggestions from you guys, you are pointing the mistake, like biasness but not telling which part is biased, haven't i mentioned the positive points of the college? please let me know because i want to re-write the article but this time i need your help so that it meets your requirements. Please reply me as soon as possible waiting for your earliest reply. Thanks a lot Syedatif (talk) 06:20, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hamas, terrorist, and militant

I have commented on the dispute on the talk page of the Israeli strikes article, but I would also like to point out that your comments there do come across as quite hostile, and not open to discussion and criticism. The US labelling Hamas as terrorist is something Wikinews should steer well clear of, and we should not be swayed by that, or interpreting the UN definition of terrorism for ourselves. There are millions, if not billions, around the world who view Hamas and those vaguely associated with them as a legitimate resistance movement fighting Israeli occupation and oppression. If we call the people firing these rockets terrorists, we are taking Israel's side. If we call them the resistance or freedom fighters, we are taking Hamas' side. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:20, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey Dragon, I just noticed that this article does not have a {{Peer reviewed}} on the collaboration page. Since you were the one who published, I thought I'd ask you to correct this minor oversight. As an aside, about your uneasiness regarding the image, the worst that could happen is that we receive a DMCA takedown notice from Al Arabiya, in which case we simply remove it. 50 are killed in Continental Flight 3407 plane crash in Clarence Center, New York

Hi Jason. Is this near to where you are? Adambro (talk) 15:00, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Bout 20-30 miles away. If it were close enough to have rode my bike, then I surely would have been there. A shame about the crash though. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 15:10, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

RE: Deletion

Firstly, I would like to apoligise for deleting the image while a discussion was taking place. That was not the appropriate thing for me do. In that way, I have clearly acted against the wiki spirit.

However, (and this does not excuse my actions) policy does seem pretty clear cut on allowing speedy deletion - see WN:FU. I believe a discussion would have almost certainly resulted in deletion for that reason, but that is no reason to delete immediately.

Please feel completely free to restore the image to allow the deletion request to continue in it's normal ways.

Thanks,

Anonymous101talk 11:33, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I just don't think that if we are going to have policies, that we should bend the rules for one thing, but not another. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 11:35, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree completely, and (now I have seen it) the Obama image looks as much a violation of policy as the airplane one, and if I had seen the DR I would have almost certainly voted for deletion. Anonymous101talk 11:40, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you please explain more fully...

Could you please leave a note on Talk:Former Guantanamo captive turns himself in and explain why you removed these sources?

I am also confused as to why you reformatted them. Even if you personally didn't like how they were formatted, you do realize that by reformatting their appearance you seriously undermined the usefulness of the history mechanism for other contributors, who are trying to figure out how the article has been changed.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 04:56, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I didn't remove anything, I reformatted it. And the reformatting I did, Is how we have been doing it here for as long as I have been here. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 05:24, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
The deletion log shows you deleted this article. It says a two day notice was placed.
I am an occasional contributor here. I started this article when the event was still very current news.
I was extremely disappointed to find no-one leaving any suggestions on the article's talk page. I checked back every couple of hours for at least the first day, and found none. If my memory serves me correctly I checked regularly for meaningful feedback for close to two days.
The deletion log shows at least one person, finally, did leave at least one message on the talk page.
I'd like to read those message(s).
Would it be possible for you to temporarily userify the article, and its talk page, so I could review those final talk page comments, and see if I could learn anything from them?
Some other wikis preferences pages allow people to specify that they want an email when a page on their watchlist is edited by someone else. I clearly need that on this wiki. But I don't see that feature listed. Pity. Geo Swan (talk) 17:39, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Just a heads up, making the user's talk page create-protected only works until someone creates the page - once someone else creates the page, the blocked guy can edit it again. - Its probably a much better idea to just protect an already created talk-page. Cheers. Bawolff

Reg tagging of articles

Hi! I found that you have tagged these two article created by me for deletion. I created the news item on Subramanian Swamy's attack in Madras High Court on february 19th (two days after the actual event) because it is closely related to the lawyer-police clashes which took place on that day. I would like to know how I need to improve it; shall I merge those two articles into a single article.

As for now, I am removing the particular tag that has been added. The stipulated period of 3 days is set to expire and it would be better if the articles do not get deleted before I could receive a reply from you.-Ravirustam84 (talk) 13:53, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Indian politician Subramanian Swamy attacked inside the Madras High Court is stale. It happened on February 17 and today is Feb 22. We don't report about evens several days old.
Lawyer-police clashes in Tamil Nadu: Over 200 lawyers arrested has minimal information. Please add more.
You can also see your welcome message on your talk page for good tips on how to edit Wikinews and what needs to done to articles so they can be reviewed. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 18:08, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, I want to tell you that the news item Indian politician Subramanian Swamy attacked inside the Madras High Court is related to Lawyer-police clashes in Tamil Nadu: Over 200 lawyers arrested as the second incident was the fallout of the first incident. As far as the lawyer-police clashes are concerned, I wrote the article on the exact day when the clashes took place. I created the first news item two days after the incident, a bit late, but violent clashes out of the protests against the happenings were still taking place. I remember having read somewhere here that such articles covering the same topic should be merged. I wish to know if these articles could possibly be merged. And if they can be, then it would be good if you could help me with it as I'm new to this project. Thanks-Ravirustam84 (talk) 22:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Sure. Just merge one witht he other and change the necessary information and request the older of the two to be deleted. Maybe add a few updated sources and such as well. That should probably work. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 22:05, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
