Costs[edit]

As well as USD could we have Euros and UK Sterling equivelants, please? Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 21:44, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well GBP works better for me, but in the past we have used USD for these sort of things. If people want to offer any prize they could do it in there currency really Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 21:46, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'd say that since the WMF is US based and the United States dollar is still able to hold on to some claim as a "world" currency, despite its recent weakness and the challege from the Euro, this seems to be an OK choice. Currency equivalents are easy to find for the USD, whatever the local currency is. However, who is going to keep track of the points? --SVTCobra 00:23, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would say, each user involved updates there own points, with myself, and prehaps someone else doing 'spot checks' sort of thing. Thoughts? Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 08:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would suggest each user creates User:My Username/Contest points where they list each article, how many points they feel it qualifies for and why. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 12:52, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Contest starts?[edit]

So, when is this contest expected to begin? --Nzgabriel | Talk 01:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Going over stuff[edit]

I have a few questions since I'm not familiar with Wikinews contest.

  1. Who's going to keep track of points or is that up to the user?
  2. Should we all have user sub-pages specifically for the contest?
  3. Is there any other rules that need going over? Kingjeff (talk) 17:33, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another question is which regions are almost never covered? I see you put Africa. But what are the other ones? Does it have to be regions or can it be individual contries? Kingjeff (talk) 17:40, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Users keep track of own points, and the regions are the ones that appear in the sidebar - Africa Asia Central America Europe Middle East North America Oceania South America

Which regions are almost never covered? Kingjeff (talk) 01:23, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Africa primarily could always use more coverage, and secondary to that I'd probably say all of the above except for Europe and North America could especially use more coverage (though that doesn't mean to have a moratorium on any particular topic/locale). Cirt (talk) 01:29, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
But the statement is ambiguous. Essentially what I'm looking for is at what point does a region becomes have enough coverage. Kingjeff (talk) 01:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Probably a judgment call up to Brian (talk · contribs), but you could also gauge by looking at how many articles exist already in the category pertaining to a particular location or topic, and compare that to the number of articles in categories of other locations/topics.
