Getting started as a contributor
|
Welcome, Hallows AG! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally. |
All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.
Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere. The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing. Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly. |
The core policies

Places to go, people to meet
Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion. There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project. |

Libyan rebel forces article........
[edit]Just a friendly word here.....without 3 sources, the article you submitted is DOA. You also might want to add a bit more "meat" to the article, as 2 sentences really won't cut it here either. Could make a good "Brief" or "Short", though!--Bddpaux (talk) 01:49, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- Nah, two sources will do, provided they independently verify the news event. But for a standalone article, at least three paragraphs. --Pi zero (talk) 01:58, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oh. I see. 'Cause there are already two sources, but one of them doesn't verify the news event. (My bad.) Yeah, at least one more source is needed — which makes (count 'em) three. --Pi zero (talk) 02:13, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Welcome1
[edit]Oh...and by the way: Welcome!! --Bddpaux (talk) 01:50, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi. A problem came up when reviewing your article (there could still be time for repairs). See my review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 00:59, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Take a look at my review comments, and the edits I made during both reviews. (The edits to the body during the first review have to be taken one at a time to see how limited they actually are.) --Pi zero (talk) 13:58, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Reviewed as "Not ready". See review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 22:34, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
A tip: when tagging an article as abandoned, use "{{subst:aband}}". That automatically fills in the date of tagging, so the article will be automatically flagged for deletion after the appropriate interval. --Pi zero (talk) 19:12, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]Hi Hallows, nice speaking to you yesterday. :) Just thought if you were interested about OpenGlobe, I transferred all three articles from here to there and they were all published within an hour. See here. Regards, --Onewhohelps (talk) 08:34, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
