Global lock
[edit]Any idea why it is taking so long for a global lock on User:Im the simplest person? I reported to meta:Stewards (and that interface is not user friendly). I thought I would ask you as you are so active with SWV and combating vandalism. SVTCobra 08:06, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- I guess there would be many reasons. Some factors that I can easily imagine is due to time zone differences (our stewards come from different regions around the world), and there are many accounts waiting for global locks. MathXplore (talk) 08:10, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- (Note) The user is now locked. MathXplore (talk) 08:38, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Reporting??
[edit]You do a lot of clean up work here (Thanks, by the way!) -- Have you ever considered doing a bit of journalism?--Bddpaux (talk) 21:40, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- (About journalistic availability) Hello. I understand that the trend at here is mainly the news of the United States. I think there are many editors who have better coverage in this area. I don't think I can do better than them, and I don't know if I have enough resources to pass the reviewing procedure. If there are any requests to translate JAWN news articles, I might be able to help them. MathXplore (talk) 05:57, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- (Availability for other type of assistance) Instead I mainly aim to assist the journalistic objectives of this project. For example, categorization of the news articles. I have already helped the categorization at ENWQ/ENWV/ENWS, simplewiki, etc. and I look forward to helping here in this area. I usually try to add relevant categories to new article submissions, and sometimes I see commonly used categories at other projects are not existing here. Since many news archives are fully protected here, I think the creation of new categories are harder than other places. If we had an edit-protected user group like the Spanish Wikinews (es:Special:ListGroupRights) or any other alternative, my categorization works can be more effective, but that is not what we currently we have. I will continue to work with the tools that I'm allowed to have. MathXplore (talk) 06:12, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Help me: 'JAWN' news articles?? And, just as a prompt: This is English WN......so, if there is a news worthy event that happens in Malaysia, Paraguay, Belize, China, Japan etc. etc. etc., -- we value an article pertaining to it -- I promise! Sometimes (outside the US), people get deeply hung up on being an 'accredited' reporter..... If you were to, say, watch an important sporting event, you could submit a news article here about it! 'Credentials' in that regard are deemed more important in some ways outside the US, but we don't require that necessarily. Anyway: Thanks for what you do here. Let me know if I can help in some way.--Bddpaux (talk) 14:21, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, the help I think that would be needed is the processing of the (speedy) deletion requests, I think many users will agree to this point. I have no other specific requests at this moment. Thank you for the guidances. MathXplore (talk) 02:53, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Question
[edit]You tagged the article Herldeen for CSD when it has literally no content whatsoever. How could you know whether it will be in scope or not? Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 14:51, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- The title does not imply journalistic intent. I have always tagged pages with such titles and the CSD tag was rarely reverted. In general, pages with literally no content are fair enough for speedy deletion. If the author is going to expand the page to a news article then the page can avoid deletion (but needs renaming without redirect), but until expansion, the page is a reasonable CSD target. Such pages need admin attention, so the tag should remain until improvement. Does this make sense to you? MathXplore (talk) 14:56, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- " In general, pages with literally no content are fair enough for speedy deletion" on Wikinews we have developping articles, which unless they are clear bad should not be deleted. A developing article with no content should wait for 4 days until its abandonded. Some good-faith editors (ex.BigKrow) start with empty articles@MathXplore Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 14:57, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- I thank your efforts to instruct users to do the right things on various projects including here. Previously, when this place was not a GS wiki and other admins were not so active, the cleanup of abandoned articles was very delayed, so I and other editors were giving CSD to them for admin attention once they came back for easier detection of abandoned materials. Today, we are a GS Wiki, some admins are more active than before, the project is also defended by (global) abuse filters, and we have more editors like you. I guess my oversensitivity to abandoned pages was caused by the previous status, but since the project has restored the ability to handle abandoned pages, I assume that global rollbacker intervention is no longer needed here. From now on, I would like to allow other experienced content creators like you to take care of such pages, so the community can incubate pages as they wish, and I can use my time to help other projects that may need my help. Again, thank you for your diligence, and please keep up the good work for the future of Wikinews. MathXplore (talk) 07:48, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- We very much appreciate the efforts you've put in to tag pages and help fight vandalism. We should be careful about those pages that resemble the {{new page}} template because it is quite likely a new user trying to work out how to write an article or even just testing what a wiki page is about. I think we should treat them the way we would a sandbox IF the page contains the essential elements for an article (as seen on the new page template). If the page contains the {{develop}} tag, a date, and the source templates, we should assume it might be a new article, even if the title is gibberish. I hope that makes sense.
