User talk:NPOV~enwikinews
Welcome[edit]
NPOV, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Chiacomo (talk) 23:49, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Your username....[edit]
It appears that you may have already run into this at Wikipedia, but your username might be misleading to some. Please consider creating a new username under which to edit. --Chiacomo (talk) 23:56, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- By the way, I resent the slur related to what you think I may have run into on Wikipedia. It's not true as far as I know and I only started using this name there today; so I'd apprciate an apology for that transparent effort to make me look like a troublemaker. NPOV 00:31, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Wow; maybe I like the concept of NPOV. How is my using it misleading? Please check on the restrictions for user names before trying to tell other people what to do.NPOV 00:03, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- I am not attacking your username, I'm simply asking that you change it as it may be confusing to other editors -- in that they may believe you are an official enforcer of the NPOV policy. Again, please select another username. --Chiacomo (talk) 00:09, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- I would like you to change your user name. Honestly, it is difficult somehow to distinct your username and NPOV as a noun. I found difficulties how to address you on a talk page.
- If you prefer to communicate in Japanese with me, please do it. Cheers, --Aphaia 00:12, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
In response to your comment on Talk:60th VJ Day commemorated across the world, I'm not trying to distract you... I'm simply responding to your messages as they come. Terribly sorry about all this. --Chiacomo (talk) 01:10, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
I have amended the username policy page to ask users to please not create potentially confusing usernames. I would be glad to rename your username to something else. -- IlyaHaykinson 02:37, August 16, 2005 (UTC)
- Please request another username from IlyaHaykinson either via his talk page or by email. I am confident your position on your username will not be supported and if you continue to edit under this name, you will be blocked again. This is quite simple -- all you need to do is begin editing under another name or ask IlyaHaykinson to transfer your current edits to a new name. Again, terribly sorry about all this... --Chiacomo (talk) 03:30, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Yes, please change your name. This one is not suitable. It's not hard to do, why not just make the change and move on from all this? Dan100 (Talk) 10:58, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called NPOV. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name NPOV~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
