Robapalooza, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Brian McNeil / talk 09:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

thank you for contributing to Wikinews. i noticed that this article is written in the form of an encyclopaedia article. it needs to be rewritten as a news report before publishing. –Doldrums(talk) 11:07, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

hi, Wikinews articles do not normally use footnote citations. we simply list all the sources used at the bottom of the article, in a section titled Sources. you can see the usage in other published articles. Wikinews:Writing an article and Wikinews:Style guide offers some guidance. feel free to ask for any help needed at Wikinews:Water cooler/assistance. –Doldrums(talk) 21:09, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Please have a look at our published articles to familiarise yourself with our style. The article can't be published before it has been improved: do not simply publish the article, it will be reverted quickly by our team, and it is considered disruptive behaviour. Please take our advise and improve the article instead. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:58, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'll do what I can in the time I have for the article. It's an ongoing story, so it may be changing as the days progress. The New Yorker may or may not be running a feature article soon. What's the Wikinews policy on "original research" and/or "original reporting"? I assume it's a bit different that Wikipedia? Thanks.--Robapalooza - (talk) 16:53, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews now has a published article on this, see Death of 4000th U.S. soldier in Iraq shines spotlight on gays in the military. --SVTCobra 00:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
