Add topicWelcome
[edit]SonicR, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! CGorman 20:16, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
de.wikinews
[edit]I'm trying to find someone from de.wikinews to speak with, to get to know what is happening on the various different wikinews sites. Is there any chance I could talk with you, or could you connect me with someone from de.wikinews? - Amgine 18:25, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
A blog entry...
[edit]http://neu-in-unten-links.blogspot.com/2005/05/nazi-demo-in-jena-am-11-juni.html
I would love to have the original article translated for en. Do you think you could find the link for me? - Amgine/talk 21:08, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
- Let me try to translate the article from de. But I'll need some time because it is not the shortest one. SonicR 17:56, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
- Article does not consider recent developments. The article is about a meeting of european neonazis in Jena/Germany in June. Several groups, including conservative politicians and far-left antifashist-groups, have organized protests against the neonazi-demonstation. Now the neonazi-demonstration has been forbidden by the city. SonicR 12:42, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]for the heads-up. He's been blocked. Got to figure out how to move my user page back now :) Dan100 (Talk) 09:30, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Excellent job fighting Pooberz! I know it's not easy to hold up a fight when a vandal isn't around (I do it all of the time), but you succeeded! Congratulations! NGerda 16:28, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
Got him, thanks! I probably never would've seen him, so thanks for the alert Dan100 (Talk) 18:56, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
This morning's vandal
[edit]Thanks for fighting the vandal, as ever. (We could probably get you sysopped so you can do blocks and rollbacks yourself, if you want).
I've restored your user pages, and taken the liberty of protecting them against against future moves. (If you want me to undo this, just say!).
BTW can you post a note on my talk page next time you see an attack? Sad to say but I'm usually on wikinew at this time every day :-). I must say I only noticed when the vandal himself left a message on my talk page, lol!
If you want to get in touch about any of the above, just drop me a note on my talk page. Dan100 (Talk) 09:30, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, I see you did leave a note - could I ask to put it in a new comment at the bottom of the page though? It's easier for me to see then! Dan100 (Talk) 09:38, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Protection against page move is allright. Thanks for quick action. I will follow your advice concerning your talk page in the future. --SonicR 10:24, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Vote
[edit]Yep, you're allowed to vote - and my thanks for the vote of confidence. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:13, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Userboxes
[edit]There is currently no consensus on a userbox policy, though we're working toward one.
The Babel system in my user space is there because it works without using templates, and without using categories. User:Amgine/Userbox guideline draft is a draft policy taking into account discussions on the Water cooler and the ArbCom decisions on both en.Wikinews and en.Wikipedia. There are also other draft proposals.
When a policy is agreed upon it is likely these templates will be moved someplace more formal. - Amgine | talk en.WN 21:54, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I understand. Thanks for the explanation. --SonicR 21:57, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Ticker
[edit]Yep, quite possible to implement there. If there is community consensus there, I can register and put the code in my userspace, and give the code to be included in the Common.js file. It's already on the french wikinews, and it only needs some minor translation. TheFearow | userpage | contribs 22:56, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called SonicR. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name SonicR~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
