How are things over on the Italian wikinews, one of the things you might have missed because you don't follow the details here is we've moved to the next level with Accredited reporters. We now have the http://www.wikinewsie.org domain and locally accredited reporters are issued email addresses on that domain. Predictable random number generator discovered in the Debian version of OpenSSL

Is there any way this article could be written so that not only computer experts understand what is going on? The article can continue to include all the technical stuff, but please include a paragraph for non-professionals so they at least get the idea. --SVTCobra 02:31, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the later paragraphs do start to explain it. I guess, just got lost early on and couldn't continue. I don't think I am slow and I think I am on the upper side of the digital divide. So, if you don't mind, the opening paragraph is very-techie.

Of this part "the pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) of the Debian version of OpenSSL, one of the most used cryptographic programming libraries. The problem affects all the Debian-based GNU/Linux distributions, like Ubuntu and , that was used to create SSL/TLS keys", I know what a random number generator is and I know what the GNU license is and know of the Linux operating system.

I do not know what "Debian", "Knoppix", PRNG, SSL/TLS key, and OpenSSL, or cryptographic programming libraries are. I have heard of Unbuntu.

Can the introduction be more accessible? That way, non-techies won't tune out until it gets over their (my) head. --SVTCobra 04:10, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
