Relevant or not?

Apparently it was forgotten to submit "Man drowns in front of his family after jumping into a frozen river in Ukraine". But according to Wikinews:Newsworthiness#Relevance, a story needs to affect hundreds of people. The person who died in this story was no celebrity, just an average person. I am not downplaying his death, but even though it was widely reported, this individual death did not affect hundreds of people, hence the report did not meet notability to begin with. Or have I misunderstood something?

This is not the only such incident though. There was another 40-year-old woman who died after jumping into frozen water ([1]), and Putin apparently also tried out this trend but under much greater safety supervision and slowly stepping into water rather than carelessly jumping into it ([2]). Perhaps the report could be merged with those? 79.249.152.59 (talk) 20:16, 22 February 2022 (UTC) Copied from Talk:Man drowns in front of his family after jumping into a frozen river in Ukraine, because I doubt the question would be found there.[reply]

The fact it was reported far beyond the local press is sufficient to make it relevant. The "few hundred" is not a hard rule. If it can be refreshed, then it could be published. [24Cr][talk] 23:12, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just found this discussion. I am the initiator of that article. Well… I guess I forgot to do the simplest of all steps: Submit. I just started to write that article out of curiousity to familiarize myself with WikiNews. I was not used to the handling of submissions on WikiNews, which differs from most other wikis where anything in main space is considered ready for public consumption, or at least in patrol queue.
Since the incident is weeks old and it looks like there will be no further updates on this particular incident, I guess we will have to let this one go.
If such accident happened again, perhaps the article could be renamed and be rewritten to cover multiple occurrences, but it looks like this is some early-year tradition, and that time is past for this year. Perhaps next year it could be reported again, should such incident occur again, which I obviously hope not to. Elominius (talk) 01:50, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As a side note, "At 46 seconds into the footage, a knocking sound becomes audible. It appears to be the man's head bumping against the ice from beneath." is my original observation from listening to the video, and is not mentioned in the prose part of any of the news articles. Yes, unfortunately, it is necessary to "stick with it" to see your article through publishing. There are just not enough volunteer editors here to fix/update/rescue every submission. As for video, it is possible to list a video as a source. Cheers, --SVTCobra 02:00, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
