BOT-Superzerocool's usefulness

Hi. After looking at:

  1. [1]
  2. [2]
  3. [3]
  4. [4]

I don't think BOT-Superzerocool (talk · contribs) is useful for our purposes. No one really cares about the Market status right now, and that can be seen on these links. De-bot? Block? Open to thoughts. --Diego Grez return fire 01:32, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If those pages haven't been receiving any hits, it's because the business portals aren't being publicised at all. I personally like the stock market updates it provides, and wish we could integrate it back into the main page. I'd prefer keeping the bot running. At the very least, it's not doing any harm. Tempodivalse [talk] 01:36, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My fault: [5] --Diego Grez return fire 01:37, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Random question: why isn't the NYSE on there? C628 (talk) 01:39, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Nasdaq and Standard & Poor's 500 are up there; we can't use DJIA for some ridiculous reason - I think it was because they were trying to copyright their numbers. Tempodivalse [talk] 02:16, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ehhh... by request Diego, I will stop updating the market share data. Please, remove bot status for BOT-Superzerocool. Thanks everyone for this 2 years. --Superzerocool (talk) 03:01, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Superzerocool, I don't meant that. It was my fault that I looked the wrong links ;) The portals are seen/watched and the bot can stay. --Diego Grez return fire 03:04, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Superzerocool doesn't wants his bot there anymore. /me slaps himself. I should have checked first the link to the portal of Economy... --Diego Grez return fire 03:11, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What? No! Superzerocool, don't get discouraged by Diego's comment, I personally consider it quite useful and would like to see it keep running. Please consider restarting it. :( Tempodivalse [talk] 03:12, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It was my fault! I posted a wrong link ... /me slaps himself again. --Diego Grez return fire 03:13, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can some other users here vouch for the bot's usefulness? Superzerocool seems to have been discouraged. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:48, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Bot is updating again the Market data... [offtopic]Diego, Pichilemu isn't the center of universe. es.wikinews isn't closed for you... [/offtopic]. --Superzerocool (talk) 00:55, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Phew. [offtopic]heh. I know. ;)[/offtopic] --Diego Grez return fire 01:01, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year contest open!

Over 890 images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are fighting to impress the highest number of voters. From professional animal and plants shots, over breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying world's best architecture, maps, emblems and diagrams created with the most modern technology and impressing human portrays, Commons features pictures for all flavours.

Check your eligibility now and if you're allowed to vote, you may use one of your accounts for the voting. The vote page is located at: Commons:Picture of the Year/2009/Voting.

Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. In the final round, when only 20 images are left, you must decide for one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Interview with Creative Commons Japan

From Wikinews talk:Story preparation/Wikinews interviews Creative Commons Japan. --Diego Grez return fire 18:24, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have decided to take interview of Asian Coordinator of Creative Commons in Japan to discuss the copyright policy and explore the relation between Wikipedia and Creative Commons so is there any possibility if somebody could help me with making questions for my interview? --Saki (talk) 18:18, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template from feedback form?

Why does the feedback form not put a template such as {{Commentary}} at the top of opinion pages that it creates? Is it for technical or editorial reasons? --InfantGorilla (talk) 14:02, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It assumes that the page already exists, and already has the template. (which in most cases is true, since the comment page is created during publish). It probably could be changed to check for the existence of comment page if it is an issue. Bawolff 17:53, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thought so. It is a problem when a user uses the feedback form on an article that was created before the current "Publish" scripts came into use. I don't know how widespread this is, but I have added the template manually to a few — a task which has already become annoying. --InfantGorilla (talk) 10:10, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How can a new news article appear on a portal?

Portal:Hong Kong still doesn't include Hong Kong by-elections start today. Kayau (talk) 15:03, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not automatic. I'll add it if you want. --Diego Grez return fire 15:04, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wait a moment, I've purged the page and it appears. Thanks anyway. Kayau (talk) 15:05, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you said, the lead. Well. --Diego Grez return fire 15:06, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, I have updated the lead of the portal with the new news article. --Diego Grez return fire 15:09, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There simply aren't enough Wikinewsies to do a good job with Portals; hence they're generally considered deprecated and should not be used. In the past ones such as the New Zealand or Australia ones were very regularly updated, but those contributors have gone on to college or full-time work that severely limits the level of contributions they can make. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:08, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate accounts

I have added to some pages (without permission) Category:Wikinewsies_with_alternate_accounts, just to keep them sorted. Revert if you want. --Diego Grez return fire 01:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody has suppressed the edit links beside section headings over at the front page of the WC. Somebody please revert; it locks out people like me who see no reason to wait for their connection to load the entire page every single time they edit. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 17:41, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

that was me. Done Bawolff 01:29, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Editing window scrolling itself like crazy (monobook, IE8)

Is there a way I can stop that? (apart from changing the skin or browser) Kayau (talk) 04:17, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Umm, I think that will be fixed in next software update (bugzilla:19334). In the mean time add the following to special:mypage/monobook.css (for momobook. change skin name as apropriate):
#wpTextbox1 {
	height: 390px;
	width: 500px;
	min-width: 100%;
	max-width: 100%;
}

Bawolff 05:04, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I disabled that on the Appeareance/Skin tab in My preferences. It's the last option. --Diego Grez return fire 14:41, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Note, this issue is not with new editor. From what I understand it will happen with the old editor as well. Bawolff 15:45, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

British Museum back stage pass

I've signed up for the British Museum back stage pass event, and hopefully will be writing an article on the event for Wikinews, any suggestions for questions about Wikipedia-British Museum co-operation.--KTo288 (talk) 22:25, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not all that familar. But i do know that there is some serious work going on in that direction. You could try maybe asking someone from commons. Bawolff 15:42, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
