Wikinews Weather Service BETA version established
[edit]- By Daniel Bryant, June 11, 2007
Administrator Dragonfire1024 has reintroduced a Wikinews Weather system, to provide up-to-date weather information of select global cities.
Presently, the Wikinews Weather Service BETA is updated every hour on the hour whilst Dragonfire1024, the maintainer of the feature, is at or near the computer. However, Brianmc has said "it will eventually be automated".
The weather information is published in the form of a graphic, and is provided in both celsius and fahrenheit formats. The up-to-date maps can be seen at the following:-

- Image:World F Current.jpg - fahrenheit
In addition, there are region-specific maps, for locations including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania. All these maps can be viewed at the Weather portal.
However, according to Dragonfire1024, the program used to formulate the maps (Wikinews WeatherChecker)is suffering from a number of issues, which are hindering the upkeep of the service.
If you wish to see your city on the map, you are invited to add a note to the discussion page. There is a general discussion about the service at the proposals water cooler.
Previously, Wikinews had an hourly weather service running from March 6 to September 19, 2005.
