It bothers me that "Wikinews" appears twice in the page name (first time in the namespace). My impulse to excessive precision originally objected to "Wikinews:Pillars of writing", but the redundancy doesn't bother me any less now that I've had time to get used to it, and I'm thinking of renaming it to the shorter form.

Anyone else have any thoughts? --Pi zero (talk) 16:35, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi zero: Maybe it's just that I'm old hat but I don't even "see" the namespace. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:41, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I found Wikinews:Newcomers' tour. Somehow, it needs some rewriting, but it should be somewhere on the Wikinews Main Page. And... how about the left side panel? --George Ho (talk) 20:01, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That was created by Tempdivalse. The hard-news times — the ones who stayed with the project after Tempo led an unsuccessful fork — hated it. I'd forgotten it was there. We don't want it made more visible, in its current form. In fact... --Pi zero (talk) 20:27, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh... I meant as a link "Wikinews:Newcomers' tour", not transcluded or anything like that. --George Ho (talk) 22:13, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... scratch that. We may have already "Write an article" and "About Wikinews" on the front page. We already have "Wikinews:Wikinews needs you!" piped as "you can write!" and Wikinews:Introduction. How else do we welcome newcomers? --George Ho (talk) 22:17, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
When someone's got off to an awkward start, I usually say something like, there's a compact overview of what we do here at WN:PILLARS, then there's a good tutorial on writing a first article at WN:WRITE. And sometimes I also mention WN:Article wizard. --Pi zero (talk) 23:27, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
