Category talk:Economy and business
Add topicInfobox image
[edit]@SVTCobra, Pi zero: For unrelated reasons I just looked at Category:Economy and business and was a little surprised to see that the image is a 16th century painting of an ancient Greek courtesan. I realise it’s been used in this category for about a decade but is it really representative of economy and business. The image would be fine if we had lots of articles about ancient and medieval economies etc. I suggest we replace it something a little more modern like:
What do you think? Green Giant (talk) 19:12, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Worth thinking about. Eventually, we have in mind for an assistant to suggest images for articles, and the most likely places for an assistant to go to find such images would be categories and infoboxen. The infobox already has an image (this); it would make sense to have a different image on the category. That would tend to rule out the first of your suggestions since it's similarly themed. Of the others, the fourth bothers me because it suggests things always going up. I'm not immediately enamoured of either of the other two. Hmm. --Pi zero (talk) 19:34, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hmm, well I suppose there is no hurry. It's just when I look at this category I'm almost expecting news articles about the outcome of the case of the Merchant of Venice, rumours of rising prices on the Silk Road or another bumper year for the Hanseatic League! It doesn't say modern economics or business to me. I'm open to suggestions if those four aren't acceptable. Green Giant (talk) 20:05, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Another conceivable candidate: File:NYSE.jpg.
I'm still hoping for new inspiration on this. --Pi zero (talk) 01:32, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- Another: File:Банка на Англија - зграда.jpg. (That's the Bank of England.) --Pi zero (talk) 14:58, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- Another conceivable candidate: File:NYSE.jpg.

Perhaps File:EH1079134 Bank of England 06 (cropped).jpg would work a little better for the Bank of England; the facade just looks like a bank. Though, the ticker photo too is a good option here. —mikemoral (talk) 05:27, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
We could put a gallery of the above options.

Personally I like option number two, File:Exchange Money Conversion to Foreign Currency.jpg, as it is easiest for me to associate with the subject. For me the second best option is the last image, File:EH1079134 Bank of England 06 (cropped).jpg. The others are difficult to see what is there, either because too small or because they require specialized knowledge to interpret. --Gryllida (talk) 05:05, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- I've put in the second option, which I think works very well. The ticker image seems a good choice too; it fits the mental image people not in finance have of trading floors with big screens covered in ever-changing jargon. Leaving the flag up on this one; a long time ago {{aviation}} was reworked to cycle between multiple images, and maybe this could have a similar setup.
