The Scotsman

[edit]

Since somebody has already tried to look at this without reading the full source, do be aware that the Scotsman is spread across two pages - and that following the link doesn't necessarily land you on page one. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 12:46, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi B-R-S, another source (the Herald) states different facts to those presented - (direct quote): "Rafferty’s funeral was held at St Mirin’s Cathedral in the centre of the town, just a mile from his old school, St Mirin’s Academy. The fact that the 1000-seater church was close to full reflected the popularity of the man." That is where the other facts came into the article. Thanks, ~YTT T | C 13:11, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Just as a side note, it is hard to tell there are two pages to the Scotsman source as the link in the source directs to the second (which doesn't have lede etc and doesn't make a lot of sense by itself). Thanks, ~YTT T | C 13:15, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Define 'close to full'. I'm slightly more trusting of a number. (Also, 400+ is not inconsistent with approaching 1,000.) The distinct impression I get is somebody has done a rough count for the Scotsman, whereas the Herald's reporter has merely glanced round the service and concluded there weren't many empty seats before looking the capacity up. I fancy the count more, especially since these two figures are not mutually exclusive. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 13:54, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
That makes sense to me. Since churches generally have pews that allow people to choose their own spacing, and additional seating may be in areas that don't draw the eye, a 1000-seater with 400 people sitting in it (let alone more than that) might well look "close to full". With 1000 people sitting in it they'd likely look packed like sardines. --Pi zero (talk) 15:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
