[edit]@Bddpaux, I'm confused I thought you were leaving the project? Good to see you're still editing here for the time being... BigKrow (talk) 11:52, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- No -- not leaving; let's call it a 'coffee break' of sorts (but not this morning!) - Ha!--Bddpaux (talk) 11:54, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, got ya!!! BigKrow (talk) 11:54, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Notes
[edit]- 6/3/24 8:00pm I was at Golden Corral (restaurant) in the south part of Tyler, Texas. Swirling rains and winds struck the area. Handicap parking signs in parking lot rocking back and forth aggressively. Although I've never been in one, looked like what I imagine a monsoon to resemble. Scary!--Bddpaux (talk) 11:53, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, wouldn't the story be OR??? BigKrow (talk) 11:56, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/3/24 8:15pm My wife text'd me, stating power out at home (about 2 miles away -- more the eastern part of the city).--Bddpaux (talk) 11:55, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, stay safe both of y'all. BigKrow (talk) 11:56, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/3/24 8:20pm Entrance door swung open by wind LOUDLY! Door-closer hinge thing broke into 4 pieces and lock on the door also broke. The irony was not lost: A cluster of 5 guys, from a big tree trimming company, were huddled just inside the exit foyer! I'd heard of swirling rain before, but this was my first time to see it!--Bddpaux (talk) 12:00, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, thanks for updating! BigKrow (talk) 12:02, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/3/24 8:22pm Blackout in the restaurant -- weird! Wind maybe 5% lighter, from what I could see.--Bddpaux (talk) 12:03, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, I added the wind part, ok??? BigKrow (talk) 12:04, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, that's collaboration!--Bddpaux (talk) 12:09, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Cool. BigKrow (talk) 12:09, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, that's collaboration!--Bddpaux (talk) 12:09, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/3/24 8:48pm Drove home, along Chad street, two massive tree limbs in street; loads of stick/leaves etc. In large curve near Hubbard Middle school, BIG flash flooding -- lots of rain on the street! Had to back up quickly. Took a different route, had to weave around branches and limbs.--Bddpaux (talk) 12:21, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/3/24 9:15pm Electricity still out at my home/neighborhood.--Bddpaux (talk) 13:45, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/4/24 12:30am Drove around eastern part of Tyler, 90% of it was in total blackout. Very strange looking.
- 6/4/24 6:15am 80% of North side of Tyler in total blackout. North Hwy 69, between Tyler and Lindale, Texas total blackout.--Bddpaux (talk) 13:50, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- 6/4/24 6:25am Near the intersection of West Gentry and Loop 323 in Tyler, saw a cluster of utility work trucks and a large bulldozer pushing a tree off the roadway. Also a Sonic restaurant in East Central part of the city, had major damage to a metal awning. A Taco Bell on the West end of Gentry Avenue -- large metal roof ornamentation blown off, lying next to restaurant.--Bddpaux (talk) 13:50, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, Paul I know you're OR but another source I think would be helpful??? Thanks. BigKrow (talk) 16:52, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, ravages? Can you think of another word? Thanks. BigKrow (talk) 16:53, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, oops I didn't mean to only rename the talk page, UGG!!!!! BigKrow (talk) 16:56, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
'Alerting users, I made a big mistake by experimenting with wording...., fix???? BigKrow (talk) 16:58, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Im, done fooling around with my experimental editing, jeez BigKrow (talk) 16:59, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Heavy Water, sorry again and thank you! BigKrow (talk) 17:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- I managed to move this page out of mainspace. I had thought the article had been overridden by a move; I didn't realize this had started with the talk page being moved while the article was left at its old title (I had actually seen Severe weather ravages portions of Texas, but I thought it was a different article since there have been a few with similar names recently). Do the authors involved want to rename the article to "Severe weather effects portions of Texas", or this talk page to "Talk:Severe weather ravages portions of Texas"? - I am ears deep in work stuff right now -- go with 'effects'. I can easily do another source, but no earlier than tomorrow morning. I am in a major crunch at work right now. I don't know what happened with that Talk page.--Bddpaux (talk) 19:20, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- I screwed it up somehow srry... @Bddpaux BigKrow (talk) 22:02, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Additional material and sources?
[edit]Could someone please merge the More weather problems predicted for parts of Texas article into this one? [24Cr][talk] 20:47, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- These seem to be 2 (related) news stories, but not the same. Besides, the other event is from 5-6 days ago@Cromium Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 21:35, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, but synthesis articles can have older material. I was just thinking some of the older article could be added as a third, background paragraph to show the weather has been like this for a few days. We could then add another source such as the Fox News one to cover the background. I'd do it but then I can't review it. [24Cr][talk] 21:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- The mess/stories are pouring in so fast (see what I did there?!), that it's hard to get a lasso around any darned single thing. I am (dead serious) suffering from weather fatigue. --and I'm so tired I don't think I have 10 more key strokes in me.--Bddpaux (talk) 21:57, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

- I edited on the premise that when Central Standard Time was mentioned here, it was supposed to be Central Daylight Time, since that's what we're on now. Also, the headline is awfully unspecific (especially as severe weather systems have been near-constant here for more than a week), which is often difficult not to do with weather articles. I'd go with something more like "Severe weather brings high winds, blackouts to eastern Texas", maybe adding "including city of Tyler" at the end. That's also more interesting to readers, in my opinion. Heavy Water (talk) 17:32, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for correcting that. I'd have preferred an additional paragraph showing it's been ongoing for a while but it didn't happen. So, I reviewed it as is. [24Cr][talk] 17:58, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
