Talk:UK Prime Minister Johnson suspends parliament for five weeks as Brexit deadline approaches
Brexit
[edit]@SVTCobra: On our previous article about brexit, iirc, I felt I'd let down the side on my review by not ensuring the term brexit was suitably explained for an international audience. Hopefully, if one looks a bit further back one would find that older articles on the subject did this better. --Pi zero (talk) 15:49, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- The third paragraph goes a bit into it, I hope it is enough. Also, the key related news items are there for further reading. I am hoping I don't have to go into what the EU is, what Article 50 is, etc. --SVTCobra 16:18, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SVTCobra: I'm not addressing the question of in-depth explanations. I'm concerned with the hypothetical reader who is told this is about Brexit and wonders what the Hell is a Brexit? Given that it's (quite reasonably) mentioned in the headline, it would be frustrating to such a reader that the term isn't explained in the lede. --Pi zero (talk) 16:29, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Better now? It did bother me the lede paragraph was so much shorter than the others, so this hopefully addresses both things. --SVTCobra 16:40, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- That looks quite plausible. --Pi zero (talk) 17:03, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Notes for the reviewer
[edit]- The related news items are used as sources to establish the dates of key events, such as the referendum, May's resignation, etc.
- The fact that the original deadline for Brexit has been extended is not in any of the sources as far as I am aware. Can we assume that to be common knowledge or do I have to track down a source?
- The Twitter video source is only used for the Johnson quote.
- Much more could be written about this as there was much drama, but I am trying to balance timeliness and our review process with giving a full account of the story.
Cheers, --SVTCobra 16:25, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SVTCobra: I honestly don't remember a previous specific deadline. --Pi zero (talk) 04:05, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Neither do I. I mean a specific one. I do know that May got at least two extensions. Since you are done for the night (it seems), I'll find a source and make a note that it's just for a specific purpose. Cheers, --SVTCobra 04:16, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Weak: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-32810887 ... says "third extension" in section What will happen next
- Strong: https://www.vox.com/2019/4/11/18305082/brexit-news-deadline-october-31-eu-theresa-may ... Although, I don't care for Vox, I don't think they'd get something like this wrong, So I am adding them for this specific datum. Cheers, --SVTCobra 04:24, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
