I'd like the template to be a bit more inconspicuous: I propose User:Stevenfruitsmaak/Archive. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 21:32, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Silly

[edit]

Personally I think this template is a bit silly, why do we need this template on every page? Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 10:46, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

serves two unctions that i can see. 1. saves readers from clicking on the edit link and then getting the same message. 2. informs them that a good place to raise their concerns about the article is the well monitored alert page rather than the talk page, where it may or may not be noticed.  — Doldrums(talk) 10:50, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
The other reason is so DynamicPageLists won't accidentally display old pages as current news if the DPL specifically lists "nothing in category:archived". —this is messedrocker (talk) 16:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
True, perhaps I would like to see it a bit more inconspicuous, this one is big and 'not very nice' Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 10:53, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Protect

[edit]

Shouldn't we protect this page so that it doesn't get vandalised? Thunderhead (unlogged) talk

Thank you, Bawolff :) Thunderhead (unlogged) talk
your welcome, but note I only semi-protected. Bawolff 02:57, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

modifying this template

[edit]

We should probably discuss before modifying this template because of its high use and from what I've read, modifying heavily used templates is hard on the servers, so we should keep modifications to a minimun. Bawolff 01:38, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

propose adding {{editprotected}} to this template

[edit]

Despite the above warning about server load, I think we need to add instructions to use {{editprotected}} to request edits to archived stories in this template. No need for sending people to edit WN:AAA when they only need to add a simple template to the collaboration page to get it listed there. --SVTCobra 23:19, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Change image to svg

[edit]

There is an svg version of the lock: Image:Lock-icon.svg We should use it. --Mephiles - (talk) 22:31, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing - the image name is Image:Lock-icon.svg. It Is Me Here (talk) 09:51, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted as I think the old lock looks nicer. Feel free to revert me back if you disagree. Anonymous101 :) 10:08, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

[edit]

Shouldn't we make a comment in the template that only non-content edit requests to the article will be accepted? We frequently get {{editprotected}} requests that want us to change a story's content and adding this directly to the template seems like an easy way to discourage people from doing that. Tempodivalse [talk] 22:07, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, makes sense ... how to word it concisely? --SVTCobra 22:17, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Nobody's objected to this for a whiles, so I went ahead and added it [1]. Tempodivalse [talk] 20:25, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Explain the policy

[edit]

The template sorely needs a one liner explaining that the reason for this apparently very unwikilike behaviour is the fact that wikinews likes the pieces of news to wholly reflect the time they where written. Or whatever. And it should be the very first thing after the headline of the box, then you can delve into the technicalities to your heart's content. 85.76.38.140 (talk) 07:48, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lazy people. It's the first sentence of the policy. Added. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 08:13, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Good job! Perhaps that will make things less annoying to wiki idealists coming from c2, meatball or wherever. --InfantGorilla (talk) 08:17, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yep, agree, nice job. I wouldn't have thought of that, but it would prevent many "Hey! This article from 2007 is out of date!" moments from newbies we've had. Tempodivalse [talk] 13:54, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit request

[edit]

{{editprotected}}Please replace the lock icon with an archive-related icon and link "archived" to the policy about archiving. 123.24.84.163 (talk) 08:17, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

"archived" already is linked to the policy. --Pi zero (talk) 11:52, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Not done; given that articles are 'locked' against editing, I see nothing wrong with the present picture. I am, however, open to a new request that made a decent case for it (preferrably with an alternative). Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 12:37, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please copy over {{ArchiveTest}} onto this template

[edit]

I have prepared a new version in {{ArchiveTest}}. We need to kill one space to workaround bugzilla:45095. Thanks.  « Saper // @talk »  14:20, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
