I had already made a draft of this at Spitzer Telescope finds water on extrasolar gas giant. I'll leave it to you to decide how to merge and which to make a redirect since I'm headed to bed and you've got a lot more experience on wikinews than I do. JoshuaZ 03:29, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- ok done...sorry I didn't se the other article. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 03:34, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Its ok, also if you are going to make that one a delete, you should delete the existing redirect of NASA finds water on extrasolar gas giant or make ir a redirect to the new article. JoshuaZ 03:35, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

- If it had been a murder case and I said "Illinois murder" would you really have thought that the whole state had been murdererd? or would you have thought that it was a murder that took place in Illinois? --SVTCobra 11:01, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]If you haven't been on Wikipedia a lot, there are open proxys editing this site by a banned editor named JB196, as indicated by the link this editor is leaving that links to the name Jonathan Barber. These IP's are open proxies, and need to be blocked (a list of them can be found in the history of the talk I'm editing). This person is a disruptive editor whose sole intent (at least here on wikinews) is trying to take credit for something when they clearly did not (on wikipedia his sole intent is vandalizing articles by removing text via supposed policy violations). If you could block these open proxys, that would be great, and would probably benefit wikinews. Cheers! (P.S. if you want to reply, you're probably better off by reaching me at Wikipedia; same username) Moe Epsilon 05:54, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well that's your alternative, but don't say I didn't warn you. If Jonathan Barber is editing Wikinews he shows no good intentions, as shown everywhere else on the internet. And yes, a checkuser by w:User:Jpgordan has confirmed again and again he's just using open proxies, really no checkuser is needed. If you look at what he's posting he posts a URL that directs straight to the name Jonathan Barber. Moe Epsilon 06:04, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
could you be more verbous Talk:Czechoslovakia ceased to exist 15 years ago- I have not got the point -- Alexandr Snajdar 10:18, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm really confused.
[edit]I still am not understanding this. I don't understand how you can be telling me that it is a "hoax" because I lived through it, it is as simple as my best friend is not here. And since I can't find any articles anymore on her, I just wanted to do this in honor of her. I did not want it to be such a problem.
It was in the LA Times and on the OC Register that's why I put links to those sites, but now the site that I had saved to link to the article right after it happened says File Cannot Be Found, I am guessing that is because of it not being current news, I don't know.
P.S. I do have her myspace, it has a pitcure of an article about the whole incident and everything since it seems to be that there you want more proof kind of thing if that would help at all. I don't know whether that makes a difference or not, just trying to get this settled.

That was not a test. I wanted Nicholas to ask that question of Frank Moore, independent candidate for President. Could you put it back? Thanks!

Your journey
[edit]To be fair, the intrepid journalist theme is valid. Don't miss Philadelphia, and get a South Philly cheesesteak. Like a NYC bagel, it's to die for. And the sand at Virginia Beach is the finest granularly and most white I've ever seen on the eastern seaboard. -Edbrown05 08:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- You will have to excuse me for misinterpreting the word intrepid. I thought it had to do with travel, which it does, but it is not something that dictionary definitions have the nuance to report... evidently. -Edbrown05 08:55, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Thank you for your kind welcome, I have been around on wikipedia for a while, so I will know the basis of how the wiki works :). However I can see this place is a bit different, and at the moment I am having a problem sourcing the news on the pages I created.
- Everytime I add the news source for the football results, my edits are being blocked by the spamfilter, and the website I want to use is not a bad website. Just a football club website (so I can't use the proper sources). The sunder king 21:11, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I will need a link or name of the site you are trying to use.
- I will email at to you, because I cannot add it onto any page without the backlist blocking the edit. The sunder king 12:31, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I-35 Bridge Collapse
[edit]This wikipedia user Tomruen was at the scene of the collapse since he works only 1/2 mile away. He took the first picture of the accident that made it to the front page. I tried to confirm the picture was his, and it turns out he jogged to the scene with a camera. He has other pictures on flickr. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Tomruen#I-35_Bridge)
Did you know about him? It would be prudent to get an interview. I would if I had enough time. -- Jay H 12:17, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- See your Commons talk, I have some nits about that awesome map you found and cropped... any help appreciated because I think the image isn't correctly attributed as it stands and I can't find the link you found on the MN DOT site that had the map (your link points to the license)... Please reply there if you would, this is just a notice. ++Lar: t/c 13:58, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- The attribution on the image is now sorted, thanks for straightening that out! We do not (yet) have a MN PD license tag, I'm working on fixing that as we speak :) ... and I'll retag the image when I have the tag done so don't worry about that. Thanks again for your efforts, happy editing! ++Lar: t/c 14:35, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well... so much for that. You may want to seek a different map source as analysis (see commons:Commons talk:Licensing#Minnesota Public Domain seems to be that the acts cited do not abrogate the copyright that the state asserts for their works. The map, the seal of the state, and the template I created to tag them are all up for deletion. My apologies for the inconvenience. I believe I led you astray and wasted your time a bit, and I'm sorry. ++Lar: t/c 20:56, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- The wikipedia page has this map Image:I 35W Bridge.svg. I replaced the one in the article with it. --SVTCobra 21:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

earthquake and pr
[edit]Maybe I am way off base here, but in my opinion anything that is not released by a news agency, yet released to the public for dissemination by the press, is pr. Not pr as in public relations but pr as in press release. I therefore include any releases by governments, companies, religious groups, NGOs, and educational institutions in my use of the {{source-pr}} template. Anyway, I am not even supposed to be here, but I will bring this up again in a proper forum in some distant future. --SVTCobra 01:34, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your view, and I am not even thinking about reverting what you did. Eventually, I'll bring it up in some policy issue. But my view is that when an entity or agency that is not in the business of reporting news, they should be cited differently than the BBC or Reuters, at the very least. While the USGS is not usually under political pressure, you must admit that other agencies of the US government may be.--SVTCobra 01:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Yasser Arafat article...
[edit]Hi! I'm new to editing or contributing articles.
On this one, I seem to be able to create a footnote to the information I'm posting, but don't know how to complete the footnote to the bottom of the page to the source: Aaron Klein "Ex-aide: Israeli assassin poisoned Arafat in ear". World Net Daily News, 11-17-2005.
it would be great if you can assist. Thanks! 74.73.104.65 04:15, 17 August 2007 (UTC)AcemanJones
Yasser Arafat article...part two
[edit]Shouldn't this article make it to the front page of Wikipedia? It seems relevant, especially with HIV/AIDS and its privacy issuse coming to the front of the 2008 USA elections and China's controversial hosting of the Olympics despite recent oppressions of AIDS Service Organizations.
How do I help make that happen? I can be emailed at acenyc28@hotmail.com. Thanks again. 74.73.104.65 04:19, 17 August 2007 (UTC) AcemanJones

If these are guidelines please go ahead and delete this and this as they are only on user pages. None of those images are on commons. Eric Wester 21:38, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Is it possible you could move them to commons for me? I have never used commons and do not fully understand how it all works there. :? Eric Wester 21:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Eric, you will have to register an account on commons and speak with someone there about images for use on User Pages. That is the only wiki that accepts them and they are fairly strict about how they are licensed. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:50, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- I got it figured out now. Sorry if I came off as rude at first. I was just a little frustrated when I made my user page and without warning everything was deleted. I hope this doesn't set apart our editing relationship. Eric Wester 22:08, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
