To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally. As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems. All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours. Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere. The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing. Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

Places to go, people to meet Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion. There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Write your first article for Wikinews! Use the following box to help you create your first article. Simply type in a title to your story and press "Create page". Then start typing text to your story into the new box that will come up. When you're done, press "save page". That's all there is to it! It is recommended you read the article guide before starting. Also make sure to check the list of recently created articles to see if your story hasn't already been reported upon.

Your contributions

There has been some speculation about your contributions. The two leading theories are that you're a car enthusiast, or that you're a car advertiser.

Now, we welcome contributors with different interests. So if you are a car enthusiast, welcome! We'll try to be fair with you, and help you along. At the same time, we don't allow advertising, so if you're an advertiser, your time here won't end well.

Block notice

From what I have seen, it appears you are an advertiser rather than an enthusiast (per above remarks). The pattern your behavior fits, thus far, is an adevertiser who attempted up to a point to shape your material to fit within our parameters, but at a certain point gave up and started just trying to slip it in by hook or by crook.

Your news article

Hi! Thanks for taking your effort to submit 2013 Honda Civic’s 1.6-litre i-DTEC Engine in Detail for review: we have not so much car news and the topic is interesting. Please do take a moment to read all the links in the un-numbered list at the article talk page: they are a barebones requirement to get a story published at Wikinews. As odd as it may seem, we try to avoid blatant copy-pastes; the reason is simple: Wikinews has a more free content license: most websites content is licensed under license incompatible with ours, and copy-pasting is not allowed. To get a story published, you may want to start with

• picking at least two independent sources,
• rereading the style guide,
• taking a good time (averagely half of an hour for me) to write the story following the style guidelines and writing in your own, unique wording, sticking to a coherent flow of the descriptions and being as objective and informative as possible.

In addition to such (somewhat tedious) activity of gluing few independent sources together into one article, Wikinews does Original Reporting and if you have a chance to carry out some first-hand interviews or see a news event in your area, it may require less rewriting work on it; you would just have to write about it in your own words from scratch.

Your recent contributions

We really try to help new contributors along. But you don't seem to be making progress. You need to make an effort to learn news writing style —you're continuing to submit stuff that reads like advertising rather than news— and your most recent contribution didn't even claim more than one source. You should certainly be aware by now that we require at least two mutually independent source corroborating the focal news event.

You say that you're a car enthusiast, rather than an advertiser. We're open to newsworthy stories on any topic. But if you want to contribute car-related news, you need to learn how to contribute news. --Pi zero (talk) 20:13, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
