Getting started as a contributor
|
Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally. |
All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.
Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere. The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing. Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly. |
The core policies

Places to go, people to meet
Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion. There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project. |

Interesting story and I am glad there is footage.
Do we know why did the airplane crash?
We require a minimum of three paragraphs, the article should be expanded a little bit, perhaps with help of adding one more news outlet source also.
I would be glad to help with any of this.

One more question: Do you have any photos or videos that you took or the photos are by someone else? --Gryllida (talk) 23:44, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
- If you do have some photos or videos please upload them here, and then add them to the article.
- I would be glad to help with any of this process here or at the live chat via text if you are interested. --Gryllida (talk) 23:57, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
Question[edit]
Hi Gryllida, the reason for the plane crash appears to be unknown, but my neighbor says the plane was on fire before the crash, so something had already gone quite wrong. I live less than a mile from where it happened, heard the plane going down, followed by the impact, and feat the impact like a small earthquake. I the first thing I saw was a plume of smoke.
I don't have any footage or photos I took myself, but some interesting stuff was uploaded to twitter that shows the scene. (I didn't want to go get in the way) I should probably just use all the uploaded material, and the records I found related to the plane's registration number since my experience is not all that interesting.

- OK, I'd add "a local resident reported seeing the plane on fire before the crash" to the article and "my neighbor says the plane was on fire before the crash, so something had already gone quite wrong." on the talk page of the article. It is a good addition.
- Do we know how many people died?
- If you can walk to the place and take a couple photos they would be great to add to the article also. We can't publish photos from twitter unless the photographer permits, this adds delay while we wait for the photographers to reply, while yours would be readily available to upload.
- Thanks for the story again. :) When you think it is ready please do not forget to submit it to review. Gryllida (talk) 05:00, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
