RE Video (awesome)

[edit]

WOW...I am impressed...its really awesome!!! I like it a lot...How did you do it? If we can get this WNN thing or a podcast going that would be awesome. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help...GREAT INTRO!!! :-) DragonFire1024 07:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Any way somebody can make it on WMV?  Thunderhead User talk:Thunderhead 07:50, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am in the US...Buffalo NY...hmmm I love the 60 minutes idea...Id totally be into that. Hmm...we should have more country graphics...the scenes of countries can be shorter to have more...Other than that, I like it a lot :) DragonFire1024 08:05, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I love it as well. (I did notice New Zealand was missing through...:P) Was that the Sky News Soundtrack you were using? (it sounds familiar). In case your interested, there is a couple of "wikinews soundtracks" here Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 08:09, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree. (I'm just worried about copyright) we could be nice if someone who's good with music can come up with a good one Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 08:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well we cannot use another news ageny's theme song...but I donno where else to get theme music. DragonFire1024 08:19, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kay, don't make it a priority, though. I can indeed wait for Soapbox registration to open up. I'm a patient man (except on my RFAs)  Thunderhead  ►  08:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Either one is fine with me, widescreen preferred.  Thunderhead  ►  08:49, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would like to see the video, but I can't because you need to create an MSN account. Could you upload it to commons? FellowWikiNewsie 17:03, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Audio track

[edit]

What format would you like the track in?? WAV or MP3. Also very small point but when adding a new message to a talk page please use the add coment bit so that it gets a new title for the section. Not that important but makes everything easier to read. Thanks --MarkTalk 14:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Right will email it to you then. Have seen the blog and i am already on the list of enrolees but carry on your advertising anyway. --MarkTalk 14:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ideas

[edit]

Yup the vids looking good. Few things about the ideas though - 60 mins is quite a long time and will require a lot of effort - how often is this going to happen. Think thats it for the time, good work. --MarkTalk 16:15, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ahh thats ok then, not usre if 60mins is here (if it is i havent seen it).--MarkTalk 16:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Project Video Wikinews

[edit]

Hey Zanimum,

Welcome to Project Video Wikinews!

Just so other members know who to contact for certain tasks, are there any specific parts of the project you are interested in? Writing a script? Editing? Presenting?

By the looks of things you are interested in finding a story/ reasearching or, writing the script. If you are, could you start to have a look for a story which could readily be investegated and discussed in much detail. The program will hopefully present stories in as much depth as a 60 minutes story. Don't know what 60 minutes is (the Australian version), it looks into stories at MUCH depth. If you want to see one 60 minutes story, go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=8DWZcf_GLWY

Please look for a story which is currently a major INTERNATIONAL issue or, is a small, local story which is heart-touching.

Thanks --Symode09 16:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

While this is an admirable goal of quality, perhaps it's a little too much? Most stories that I could see people reporting on are somewhere inbetween. A protest, a local business issue, interviews, a furry convention even. But it's hard to land big stories unless you just so happen to be at their heart. The only international story that hit my hometown was the arrest of alleged terrorists. Otherwise, nothing really world-stage worth has happened in my town of 400,000. -- Zanimum 21:01, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Commons

[edit]

We should at least upload the second video to commons IMO for easy access Wiki wide. DragonFire1024 00:56, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

On the Wikinews mailing list, they love the videos :) but they want to see it on a more broader scale...aka YouTube and Commons...So we should upload to commons first then YouTube...Yes just the second promo video. If you need to sign up for the wikinews-I mailing list you can here and I wouls suggest setting it up as a bundle.

I had to revert the edit because the links were not working. Sorry DragonFire1024 01:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem about IRC :) So how about commons? DragonFire1024 01:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

How could you embedd a video / insert html code into a page? --Symode09 07:00, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The short answer is you can't (in wikinews. Well actually I lie about that, but the only method currently is a very very bad idea), for really really good reasons. Basically (to do it in a good way) someone would need to create a (php) extention for mediawiki that inserts the code. P.S. DF said something about you having a new media player. what's the stopry about that? Bawolff 05:22, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
see m:MediaWiki extensions. If you're referring to youtube embedation, that already exists but isn't enabled here (for example - mw:Extension:YouTubeTag among others). Basically what it would theoretically look like is similiar to a DPL. something like <video>image:foo.ogg</video>, and the <video> tags would be replaced by whats on this page. Bawolff 05:37, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
For the video page, you might want to make the background not repeat. it looks a little strange on high resolutions. Bawolff 19:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE IRC

[edit]

Sorry I missed you in IRC. I was out of the room and was not looking at the monitor. How are things on your end :) DragonFire1024 14:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You really ought to try a real client. CGI::IRC sucks. Bawolff 02:34, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Embeded video

[edit]

I agree that we DO need a player, but it does have to be "free" or open sourced...But with that said...I think we need to worry more about getting content and a pilot and an opening theme before we worry about a video player. I hope you are not discouraged. DragonFire1024 11:54, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ready

[edit]

All the graphics are done? We still need an opening theme with a theme song? closing credit I can do with a program I have...But I don't see where we are ready unless I am missing something?? Let me know :) DragonFire1024 05:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello? I am sorry to pester you...but I would like an update/response...I would like to know what needs to be done and what is done... DragonFire1024 02:08, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks! I'm actually not a member of the project anymore, but this page may be of use to you if you haven't seen it already. I would also visit them on IRC as #wikimedia-cpg. I am Pilotguy on IRC as well. Thanks for your interest! —Pilotguy cleared for takeoff 12:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

take, especially for a newcomer. but u'll have to acknowledge and help fix such mistakes if they're found. it's especially troubling that u give misleading source information. it's a big problem if we cannot trust you to contribute to wikinews and keep to its policies. –Doldrums(talk) 10:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

i'm not sure u do understand. one article, the Quantas one, remains unresolved and needs your answers. ur edit to the ANZAC article, where you added what appears to be false information and then published the article, remains unexplained. i know u r focusing on other things but we cannot leave the Quantas article as it is. it has to be fixed. u will find it very hard to contribute to wikinews if some of ur contributions look suspicious and you refuse to clarify issues about them.
btw, the huge image on ur userpage needs to be fixed. on Firefox2/WinXP, atleast, it blocks access to tabs and other links providing Wikinews functionality. –Doldrums(talk) 11:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

applying for grants

[edit]

i saw this and am concerned about it. pls keep in mind that you do not represent Wikinews or the Wikimedia Foundation. an appeal on behalf of Wikinews, at the very least, should only be initiated after letting a broad section of Wikinewsians as well as the Foundation know about it. i am concerned because i do not believe you are sufficiently knowledgable or experienced to do these things on your own. pls discuss such matters widely in the project (in particular involve those experienced with such matters, for eg. Eloquence or IlyaHaykinson) as well as with the Foundation before approaching an outside agency on behalf of Wikinews. at this point i'd strongly suggest you post a note on cooler and contact the Foundation explaining what you've done so far. –Doldrums(talk) 11:20, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
